Positions & Duties

Human Resources focuses on 4 key service areas: Administration/Strategic Support; Benefits; Employment; and Workers’ Compensation, Health and Safety, providing a full range of human resource services with the exception of labor/employee relations, which is handled by the Office of Employee Relations in the City Manager’s Office.

The Human Resources Department is seeking to fill an overstrength  Analyst position in the Employment Division, in order to assist in recruitment activities and other HR-related activities.  This position is currently approved through June 30, 2018 and is subject to extension.

Employment Analysts are responsible for recruiting qualified applicants by developing and administering valid selection processes and for conducting classification projects such as individual position studies, new job class development and class specification revision.

This is an exciting opportunity for individuals with a passion for human resources in the public sector. These positions require strong organizational skills and the ability to build effective working relationships with all City Departments and with other key stakeholders within the City of San Jose organizational structure and to represent the City to applicants, employees and residents. Attention to detail, a strong customer service perspective, and critical thinking skills are crucial. These positions require creative thinkers who are willing to develop and implement strategies to meet department needs.

Minimum Qualifications

1.  Education:  Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.

2.  Experience: Analyst I:  none.  Analyst II:  Two (2) years of increasingly responsible professional staff analytic or administrative experience at a level equivalent to Analyst I with the City of San Jose. 

3.  Employment Eligibility:  Federal law requires all employees to provide verification of their eligibility to work in this country. Please be informed that the City of San Jose will not prepare or file a labor condition application with the Department of Labor.
