SUNY Cortland invites applications for a full time management confidential Assistant/Associate Director of Human Resources and Affirmative Action Officer. The specific level of position will depend on experience. As the assistant/associate director, the position has overall responsibility for professional and management position and compensation management, and is oversees all faculty and professional staff recruitment. The successful candidate shall possess a strong knowledge of and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, the ability to prioritize and work within tight deadlines, strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills, ability to collaborate with others, communicate effectively and efficiently both verbally and in writing with individuals at all levels of the college, use discretion and maintain all confidentiality, sound strategic-thinking and consulting skills in guiding the campus toward workable strategies and solutions in the areas of policy, procedure and complaint resolution, a high degree of emotional intelligence and ability to effectively facilitate investigation and resolution of sensitive, complex issues, and a strong technological aptitude.

Required Qualifications: Master’s degree highly preferred, Bachelor’s degree required. Several years of progressive experience in human resource management including labor and employment law, demonstrated analytical and collaborative competency, demonstrated experience effectively dealing with sensitive and complex issues, and excellent interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills.


Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and/or Master’s degree in Human Resource Management or related field, progressive experience in collaboratively developing, interpreting, and implementing HR policies, procedures and protocols, preferably in a multi-cultural, diverse higher education institution, experience specifically in a compliance function, including conducting internal investigations, preferably in Human Resources or Affirmative Action/EEO,SUNY Experience, and/or PHR or SPHR certification.
