Who are we looking for:

We are looking for a senior level HR professional who has extended knowledge and work experience in all of the HR disciplines. This person also needs an acute understanding of business practices and principles.

Details of this position:

The Associate VP, HR is primarily responsible for directing all of the U.S. people functions of in accordance with the policies and practices of Geotab, the ethical and social consciences of business and society, and the laws, regulations and administrative rulings of governmental organizations and other regulatory and advisory authorities and organizations.

The Associate VP, HR will also be responsible for the strategic US human resource planning to provide the organization with the best people talent available and to position the organization as the employer of choice by being aware of policies, practices and trends within the industry.

The Associate VP, HR must possess self-assurance and be capable of public speaking, representing and communicating Geotab’s vision and direction to our staff. The position requires a thorough working knowledge and understanding of the Geotab product. Must have strong organizational skills with an ability to plan, prioritize and execute tasks in an efficient manner without sacrificing quality, or accuracy. 

Duties and Tasks/Essential Functions:

  • Participates in the development of the organization's plans and programs as a strategic partner, but particularly from the perspective of the impact on people. Translates the strategic and tactical business plans into HR strategic and operational plans.

  • Evaluates and advises on the impact of long-range planning of new programs/strategies and regulatory action as those items affect the attraction, motivation, development and retention of the people resources of the organization.

  • Develops progressive and proactive compensation and benefits programs to provide motivation, incentives and rewards for effective performance..

  • Develops human resource planning models to identify competency, knowledge and talent gaps and develop specific programs to fill the identified gaps. Areas of activity will include talent management through proper succession planning programs for key contributor and management positions, training and development programs for preparing employees for more significant responsibilities, and general business development programs to enhance employee knowledge and understanding of the business of the company and the telematics industry.


  • Plans, directs, and manages all US Human Resources initiatives; recruitment, compensation, benefits, training, employee relations, etc.

  • Manages all employees of the US HR department. Responsible for the hiring and performance management of the employees within that department.

  • Manages the budget and other financial measures of the HR department.
    Works directly with executives, department heads, managers, and supervisors to assist them in carrying out their responsibilities on personnel matters.

  • Communicates changes in the organization's personnel policies and procedures and ensures that proper compliance is followed.

  • Assists executive management in the annual review, preparation and administration of the organization's wage and salary program.

  • Maintains in-depth knowledge of  industry trends and legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance. Partners with the legal department as needed/required.


  • Develops staffing strategies and implementation plans and programs to identify talent within and outside the organization for positions of responsibility. Identifies appropriate and effective external sources for candidates for all levels within the organization.

  • Establishes credibility throughout the organization to be an effective listener and problem solver of people issues.

  • Recommends, evaluates and participates in staff development for the organization.

  • Manages and resolves complex employee relations issues. Conducts effective, thorough and objective investigations.

Experience/Skills Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, HR, or related field

  • Minimum certification of SHRM-SCP / SPHR

  • 10 to 15 years' related work experience

  • Working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines, including strong employee relations skills, recruiting strategies, compensation practices, policy development, performance management, and federal and state employment laws.

  • Working knowledge of multiple business practices, including organizational diagnosis and operational strategy, workforce planning, and budgeting.

Education and Experience/Skills Preferred:

  • Master's degree in Business, HR, or related field.

  • GPHR certification - Global Professional in Human Resources
