Job Details

The ideal candidate will be familiar with a variety of benefit concepts, practices, and procedures and can perform a variety of complicated tasks. The Benefits and HR Operations Manager will rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. This position requires a bachelor's degree in a related area or equivalent experience and 5-8 years of experience in managing benefit programs, with some experience in managing global benefit programs.  CEBS and/or SHRM designation preferred.  HRBP or HR Generalist experiences highly desirable, with strong collaboration skills.

Strong business acumen and a proven track record of success in increasingly complex human resource roles are required.  Outstanding analytical skills and strong Excel skills along with strong organizational/project management skills and attention to detail.  Strong confidentiality skills.

Strong knowledge of federal and state laws relating to benefits plans including ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, Section 125, FMLA, ACA, EEO-1, Affirmative Action Plans, OFCCP compliance, Federal and State discrimination laws, etc.  Excellent time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and multi-task and work under tight deadlines.  Strong customer service orientation.  Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

The primary responsibilities of this role are to research, analyze, evaluate, and administer/manage corporate benefit plans and programs on both a domestic US and worldwide basis.  In addition, this position manages the HR Operations Center staff, a group which provides full service HR support to employees from hire through termination.

  • Manages benefits program to include day-to-day administration, open enrollment, benefits education, Intranet benefits website, compliance, claims resolution, change reporting, and budget management. Monitor benefit trends in the business environment and stay up-to-date on applicable benefits legislation.  Assist with RFPs, contract renewals, rate negotiations, design, and regulation issues, as well as other projects as assigned.
  • Assume responsibility for all compliance and audit filings and functions, including but not limited to interfacing with internal and external auditors, managing non-discrimination testing for 401(k) and dependent care plans, filing 5500’s, SARs, etc.  Audits benefit plans for compliance with government regulations.  Review and update H&W Summary Plan Descriptions (SPDs) with any plan design changes and legal compliance updates
  • Oversees the design, development and preparation of benefits related reports (e.g., budget versus actual analysis, wellness metrics, etc). Assist with budget preparation including compiling participation, utilization and claims data. Input, interpret and analyze all claim cost spreadsheets as assigned.
  • Train HR Operations Center staff in all aspects of HR to fully meet the needs of the North American employee population.  Responsibilities include data entry, answering employee inquiries and resolving concerns, and HR generalist activities (onboarding, employee relations, exit interviews, etc.).    Understand employment law and train staff as needed to successfully perform HR generalist responsibilities.  Ability to create new policies and interpret current policies.
  • Manages and creates communication materials for benefit programs.  Oversees the preparation and submission of government-mandated reports and communications to employees.  Coordinate and manage benefit communications and timely updates to the company website and applicable benefits guide materials.
  • Coordinate and manage annual Open Enrollment activities; create communication materials and manage the implementation of the program internally and externally.
  • Manages all benefit programs for Canada, including RRSP and health and welfare benefits. Must stay informed of legislative changes in Canada and proactively manage the plans to be compliant. Possesses working knowledge of provincial statutory requirements. Manages consultants and vendors. Partners with payroll, as needed.
  • Responsible for inventorying all benefits internationally by country. Conducts annual review of benefits for compliance. Initiates benchmarking to ensure competitiveness, and searches for ways to achieve cost savings.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert and a lead member for the wellness program. Develop and manage company-wide wellness and preventive care programs.
  • Evaluate and revise internal processes to reduce costs and increase efficiency.
  • Plan, organize, and carry out assignments from management staff with minimal direction
