Job Details

The Stillaguamish Tribe of Indians is seeking a Benefits Specialist to join our exciting Human Resources Team!

As the Benefit Lead the Benefits Specialist is responsible for administrating all benefit and retirement programs including billing and audits. Develop benefit procedures; work closely with benefit vendors and update employee benefits with minimal supervision and direction. Assist with employee relations.

Position Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a system of procedures to administer the employee group benefits program.
  • Maintain and monitor employee insurance program/policies including the renewals, bids, and claim problems.
  • Coordinate work flow and procedures between Employee Benefits and other departments.
  • Act as a liaison between all group benefit plan representatives and employee benefits.
  • Prepare and develop communication and educational materials regarding the benefits package for all the insured employees.
  • Maintain benefit records in Abila (HRIS) and compile reports from database as needed.
  • Plan, organize and direct the activities related to group health, dental, vision, life, disability and 401(k) plans.
  • Review and assure compliance with Federal, ACA, and Washington Statutes as it affects employee benefits.
  • Advise management on resolving benefits issues.
  • Research and analyze healthcare plans, including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance.
  • Design a comprehensive benefits package to meet the needs of a changing workforce.
  • Evaluate the costs and value of offering perks such as wellness programs, and employee assistance programs.
  • Coordinate the acquisition of medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance coverage and benefit programs.
  • Build and maintain relationships with all group benefit plan vendors.
  • Monitor and review performance agreements with all benefit plan brokers and TPA’s.
  • Review and approve vendor invoices for payment, resolve disputes and report on fees and costs.
  • Meet priorities and deadlines.
  • Assist in Employee Relations matters as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Occasionally requires standing and/or sitting for sustained periods of time.
  • Occasionally requires ascending or descending stairs or ramps using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.
  • Occasionally requires raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally.
  • Occasionally requires stooping which entails the use of the lower extremities and back muscles. Infrequently requires crouching.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

 

Position Qualifications

  • Five years minimum experience as an HR Generalist with an emphasis in HR Benefits Administration.
  • B.A. degree or similar combination of education and experience.
  • Tribal Health Plan experience preferred
  • ACA reporting experience preferred.
  • Employee relations experience
  • Prior experience with an HRIS or Sage MIP/Abila program preferred.
  • Must successfully pass a background check and drug screen.
  • Must possess a current Washington State Driver’s License and be insurable under the Tribe’s vehicle insurance.

 

 

Requirements


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of human resources.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Knowledge of in Indian Health Services (IHS) Purchased Referred Care (PRC) preferred.
