Hennepin Technical College (HTC) seeks a Chief Human Resources Officer dedicated to excellence in career and technical education who desires to become part of an environment that values trust, integrity, pride, passion, respect, collaboration, innovation, continuous improvement, and diversity.

Hennepin Technical College is the largest stand-alone two-year technical college serving over 20,000 individuals in both credit and non-credit courses. Campuses located in the suburban Minneapolis communities of Brooklyn Park and Eden Prairie employs approximately 500 classified and unclassified administrators, managers, faculty, professional, clerical and maintenance employees.

Reporting to the President, the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) is the college's senior Human Resources leader and serves on the President's leadership team.

The CHRO provides strategic leadership and communication through alignment of HR policies, processes, procedures and initiatives with the strategic goals and objectives of the college. The CHRO is responsible for articulating campus-wide HR needs and plans to the executive leadership team, collaborating with HR stakeholders, and ensuring effective HR practices and resources. The CHRO serves as the organizational culture champion, communicating college values and reinforcing integrity and trust. The CHRO also serves as a confidential resource and confidant to the President.

The CHRO is responsible for developing and executing transformational human resource strategy in support of the overall goals, initiatives and strategic direction of the college by proactively leading and influencing organizational culture and performance through holistic, collaborative HR practices. Specific areas include legal compliance, diversity, equity and inclusion; succession planning; talent management; change management; organizational and performance management; training and development; employee and labor relations; intentional recruitment and retention; and workforce planning and design.

The CHRO must have an enterprise leadership approach that considers both college and system-wide stakeholders when analyzing issues and proposing solutions. The CHRO develops and maintains relationships across the system and collaborates with the system office and CHRO community to develop and share effective HR practices.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Psychology, Communications or other related field from a regionally accredited institution.
  • 7 years' experience working in Human Resources.
  • Progressive leadership experience in Human Resources.
  • Employee and labor relations experience encompassing significant exposure to bargaining, grievance process, contract administration, and dispute resolution.
  • Proven experience in the design, implementation, management and review of Human Resources functions.
  • Work history that demonstrates personal initiative in and ownership of assigned areas of responsibility as well as the proactive implementation of change.
  • Demonstrated understanding, knowledge and ability to interpret Human Resources policies, procedures and employment law.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Industry recognized HR certification (SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR or SPHR).
  • Leadership experience in higher education, non-profit, or government.
  • Proven record of accomplishment that demonstrates initiative and creativity, preferably in a community or technical college.
