SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) is one of the most historic and largest Native-run health organizations in the nation. Headquartered in Juneau, SEARHC has roughly 900 employees and provides healthcare services in 27 communities across Southeast Alaska. The organization includes the 25-bed Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital, which provides acute care, critical care, obstetrics, surgery and perioperative care; as well as numerous outpatient clinics; behavioral health; tele-medicine; dental health and a range of other services. In 2016, SEARHC was awarded The Joint Commission’s “Gold Seal.” 

The vice president/chief human resources officer (CHRO) is responsible for strategic planning, management and direction of all aspects of human resources for SEARHC.  These areas include workplace planning, recruitment, employee relations, compensation/benefit plan administration, performance review and development programs.  The successful placement will build and develop the HR function to further SEARHC’s goals of being the provider and employer of choice in the communities it serves.  This position reports to the chief operating officer (COO) and is a member of the senior leadership team.  


The next CHRO of SEARHC will have demonstrated expertise in leading an HR department through a restructure, transition and/or transformation.  S/he will have a track record of managing budgets effectively across multiple departments, setting up metrics and business processes, and leading a range of administrative areas of responsibility.  The successful placement will possess a customer service mentality, with expertise and experience in service recovery and quality improvement theory. 


  • Seven+ years' progressive human resources experience, with strong generalist background.
  • Five+ years' experience at management level. Healthcare experience is a plus, but is not required.
  • HR leadership experience in a 750+-employee, multi-site organization
  • Experience with mergers/acquisitions and the impact/steps necessary for successful HR transition.
  • Overseen implementing or optimizing HR information systems. Knowledge of Lawson is a plus.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, HR or related field.
  • Professional certification at SPHR level or master's degree in related field highly preferred.
