Job Description Summary:

It is the academic mission of the George Washington University's School of Business (GWSB) to be a preeminent business school recognized for scholarly research, teaching excellence, innovative curricula and focused on the responsible management of organizations in the global environment. In support of this mission, the F. David Fowler Career Center is searching for a Communities of Practice Program Manager. This individual is a key contributor in providing co-curricular programming, industry knowledge, professional development and networking connections for students.

The position reports to the Executive Director, F. David Fowler Career Center. This position does not have direct reports but may schedule, train and supervise temporary staff or student workers.

The primary focus of this role is to build industry, functional, or unique communities that serve as robust resources for students desiring to launch careers in various industries or in specific functions. A Community of Practice will consist of faculty advisors, career coaches, employer development consultants, academic advisors, alumni mentors, employer partners, corporate ambassadors, experienced upper classmen and student clubs. These stakeholders will all commit to supporting the Community with their wisdom, work and, when appropriate, wealth in order to provide both graduate and undergraduate students with deep industry and functional training, professional development and networking connections in order to accelerate their market readiness and competitiveness.

The key responsibilities include:

Develop and provide strategic direction of the GWSB Communities of Practice program for the following communities of interest to our students: Finance, consulting, marketing, business analytics, international development, international students, etc.).

Create and implement customized programming in collaboration with faculty advisors, academic advisors, career coaches and employment partners for each community so that students will have a structured roadmap for navigating a career in their function of choice.

Manage program budget in development and maintenance of the Communities of Practice Program.

Responsible for the program's influence on Business School rankings in areas including percentage employed at graduation, percentage employed 90 days after graduation and average starting salaries.

Facilitating easy access to a broad network of standing experts and mentors ready to support students efforts to secure industry and functional knowledge, practical experience, internships and full time jobs.

Develop and deliver training to students and mentors to establish expectations and to ensure an effective mentor/mentee relationship.

Continuously monitor effectiveness and program to provide enhancements and improvements.

Partner frequently with industry specific Employer Development Consultants, Corporate Collaborative Council, Employer Partners, Alumni, and staff to ensure that our methodologies map to industry demands on an ongoing basis.

Reports and logs data that has direct correlation to the Communities of Practice program goals, student/partner satisfaction, usage and other metrics used to enhance professional development, market readiness and student job placement.

Represent department at meetings, events, and conferences. Weekend programming assistance is provided as needed.

Other duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning additional responsibilities that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 5 years of relevant professional experience. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:

Masters Level Degree, MBA preferred, but not required.

Experience to include two years of any combination of the following: managing mentoring programs, career development & coaching, and/or project management.

Familiarity with the academic, business and international cultures highly desired.

Excellent communication, leadership, interpersonal, teamwork and customer service skills.

Flexible and creative problem solver who consistently meets deadlines.

Works well under pressure in fast paced environment.
