Job Details

Responsible for the Colorado Permanente Medical Group (CPMG) company-wide vision, strategy, research, design, implementation, communication, training, and overall management of the total compensation program.

Major Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

  • Recommends strategic revisions to, reduces complexity of, and monitors the effectiveness of existing compensation policies, guidelines and procedures.
  • Identifies new plans and vendors, while ensuring benchmarking is completed for cost effective and consistently applied plans, aligned with CPMG objectives.
  • Coordinates implementation of existing and new plans, while providing service-oriented guidance and direction to staff, leadership, and the CPMG board of directors.
  • Provides well thought out advice to staff and leadership on pay decisions, policy and guideline interpretation, and job evaluation including the design of creative solutions to all compensation-related programs.
  • Performs regular job family evaluations and market analysis, aligned with internal and external data that is benchmarked and based on solid compensation criteria. May assist in writing job descriptions.
  • Performs the administration of all pay and incentive programs for executive, physician, and administrative staff positions.
  • Communication lead for all annual pay and incentive processes; with an eye for increasing consistency, reducing risk, and minimizing process complexity.
  • Performs incentive calculations for all employee groups ensuring accuracy and timeliness of payments according to organizational timelines.
  • Oversee and participate in the preparation of salary surveys to ensure benchmarking data is regularly available and market trends are communicated and understood by leadership, in a proactive manner.
  • Coordinates the physician compensation committee to include working with the chair to set agenda, compiling information and performing analysis to present at meetings, making recommendations to the committee regarding courses of actions, and executing committee decisions. May participate in or lead other committees as needed.
  • Keeps apprised of federal, state, and local compensation laws and regulations in order to ensure CPMG compliance.
  • Develops techniques for compiling, preparing, and effectively presenting data.
  • May supervise assigned staff to include hiring, orienting, training, delegating work, setting goals, coaching, supporting, developing, evaluating performance, rewarding and recognizing performance, addressing performance issues, and resolving escalated compensation and benefit issues.
  • Coordinates with other departments, staff, and leadership with health plan and CPMG to accomplish objectives.


Required Minimum Education:

Bachelor’s degree in business, human resources, or related field.

Preferred Education:

Master’s degree.

Required Minimum Work Experience and Qualifications:

8-10 years of experience in the administration of compensation and benefit plans to include: policy development/revision, vendor management and negotiation, design and analysis of compensation and benefit plans, performing market analysis, forecasting and trending, making presentations to senior management, and committee coordination. Mathematical aptitude, analysis skills and ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Strong interpersonal skills in successfully working with and influencing leadership. Mastery of legal and regulatory environment as it relates to compensation. Expert level of MS Excel, and ability to use MS Office suite of products and HRIS.

Preferred Work Experience and Qualifications:

Experience with Defined Benefit pension plans. Previous experience leading compensation staff.
