Job Details

Provide human resources consultative services to client group by providing guidance on employee relations policies and practices.    Function as primary HR contact for all client group employees. Perform a key role in Safe Horizon’s onboarding process for new staff and with career development strategies and implementations.




  • Partners with the Vice President Human Resources on organizational development initiatives – e.g., climate assessment, employee engagement assessments, change management initiatives, core values development, competency model development

    Partners with Vice President Human Resources on the design and delivery of management and leadership development programs/interventions and succession planning

  • In conjunction with Vice President Human Resources, develops and manages the Performance Management Program, including delivering annual performance management training and on-going performance coaching

  • Develops, conduct and manages the Safe Horizon’s On-boarding program for all new staff

§  Conducts annual development needs assessments in consultation with Learning and Development team
  • Provides Career Counseling

  • Reviews, analyzes and clarifies job specifications, competencies/skills required to gain an understanding of career development needs

  • Facilitates, as needed, on team development, strategy planning, reorganization, and change management efforts.

  • Conducts employee surveys, analyzes data and makes recommendations to improve on-boarding and career development processes.  

  • Provides ad-hoc reporting and analysis regarding HR metrics and other staff development needs.

  • Other duties as assigned.



  • Supports partner group leaders regarding their employee relations, performance management and other HR issues.

  • Provides counsel and support to management on the appropriate interpretation and application of human resources policies, including support and counsel on organizational structure and workflow management.

  • Provides recruiting guidance and support in collaboration with the hiring managers.

  • Consults with management to recommend candidates, starting salaries, etc.

  • Provides guidance in managing employee relations issues by coaching and counseling client group leaders on performance management and other HR matters.

  • Ensures compliance with internal policies and external agents, e.g., governmental agencies and contract funders. 

  • Conducts performance coaching, advising and mediation, as needed

  • Conducts HR training events as necessary

  • Conducts investigations in response to employee complaints, employment litigation, and workplace grievances.

  • A demonstrated ability to formulate creative solutions to human resource challenges.

  • A demonstrated ability to manage and initiate human resource functions in a fast moving environment of highly skilled professionals.

  • Experience utilizing HRIS systems.

  • Experience providing support and counsel to managers.

  • Ability to multitask and manage assignments independently

  • Ability to communicate and work with various department and employee levels

Required skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.

  • Ability to work with all organizational levels

  • An ability to analyze work force issues and make appropriate recommendations.

  • Sensitivity to the internal and external political implications of the human resources function.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Microsoft office and computer skills required



  • BA/BS degree in Human Resources, or related field, or equivalent relevant experience.

  • Master’s degree in Human Resources or related discipline desirable

  • PHR/SPHR preferred

  • Knowledge of HRIS database functionality, (preferably ADP Workforce Now), report writing and running queries is highly desired.  

  • Expert technical knowledge of MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word)

  • 5+ years of human resources generalist experience. Not-for-Profit experience a plus

  • Demonstrated knowledge of HR relevant laws and policies

  • Superior analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving abilities along with demonstrated success advising and coaching managers

  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Ability to manage multiple, complex tasks, and shifting priorities under tight deadlines

  • Demonstrated strategic planning, project management, and resource allocation skills

  • Effective interpersonal/customer service skills, presentation and public speaking skills

  • Ability to interact with all levels of staff members within the agency

  • Understanding of relevant employment laws
