Director, Employment and Compensation Services

New Mexico State University (NMSU) is a comprehensive land-grant institution of higher learning accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Universities. An active research university, NMSU anchors the southern end of New Mexico’s Rio Grande Research Corridor, exceeding $140 million in research and public service expenditures. Human Resource Services (HRS) is looking for a change-minded and competent HR Professional, in Employment and Compensation who can lead and direct this unit. The person selected for this position will work closely and collaboratively with a dedicated and knowledgeable HR Leadership team and staff.

This position will manages and oversees the planning and day-to-day administration of the University’s Employment and Compensation Services units. Supervises the development, implementation, and administration of programs and policies within these specialized areas of Human Resources Services.

The position will direct the daily activities for Employment/Compensation staff; creates or modifies university procedures, policies and guidelines as necessary. Assist HR units and other administrative units with compensation and affirmative action related data. Provide consultation to university administrators concerning compensation and market data. Work closely with university administration on creating compensation strategies for the university and monitoring market data that may impact recruiting and retention. They will act as subject matter expert with regard to employment and compensation for training and development purposes as well as be able to present to small and large groups for related topics. Provide guidance with relation to state and federal guidelines and laws regulating Human Resource Services and provide recommendations to administration.

Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Five (5) years of professional experience related to the standard duties as outlined. Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Skill in the use of personal computers, enterprise information systems, and related software applications. Records maintenance skills. Database management skills. Skill in developing policy and procedure documentation.Ability to work effectively in a team environment. Ability to gather and analyze statistical data and generate reports.Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures. Ability to provide on-the-job and technical guidance and training to staff. Ability to serve on a team to plan, coordinate, and administer complex administrative systems and processes.Ability to make administrative and procedural decisions and judgments on sensitive, confidential issues.

Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate experience in reporting software, such as Cognos or Crystal Reports. Experience with Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS), software use, planned upgrades, and new implementations are helpful.MS Office suite applications, market analysis, development and maintenance of salary structures, applicant tracking and position management systems, such as PeopleAdmin/Banner/Ellucian. SPHR, SHRM-SCP preferred.
