Position Summary

The Director of Benefits reports to the Vice President of Human Resources and provides operational management for all benefit plans and programs for employees and retirees of Shore Medical Center as well as Employee and Occupational Health.

Core Duties

  • Responsible for the proper administration of all benefit programs including, but not limited to, Retirement Plans, Medical, Dental, and FMLA
  • Evaluates and analyzes the results of the programs and services regularly reporting these results to Sr. Leadership
  • Proactively advise leadership on benefit strategies that align with the Medical Center’s short and long term goals
  • Oversee annual Open Enrollment process
  • Ensure that benefit plan documentation such as plan documents, contracts and insurance policies are accurate, current and reflect the Hospital’s intent
  • Maintain strong working knowledge of all applicable federal, state and local laws, ordinances, regulations and reporting requirements, including COBRA, HIPAA, ERISA, and state statutes governing benefit plans.  Review and analyze changes to state and federal laws pertaining to benefits
  • Directs preparation and distribution of written and verbal information to inform employees of benefits programs such as insurance plans, pension plans, 401(k), life and special employer-sponsored plans
  • Oversee the handling of benefit inquiries and issues to ensure that timely, equitable, courteous explanations and resolutions occur
  • Oversees administration of employee retirement plans 


  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or business related field, MBA preferred
  • 7 years Benefits Administration experience
  • Experience administering D.C. and D.B. plans
  • FMLA management experience
  • Knowledge of government regulations over benefit plans including ACA and ERISA
  • CEBS and SHRM certifications preferred
  • Strong computer, written and oral communication, and organizational skills
