Clearwater Paper manufactures quality consumer tissue, away-from-home tissue, hard roll tissue, bleached paperboard and pulp at manufacturing facilities across the nation. The Company is a premier supplier of private label tissue to major retailers and wholesale distributors, including grocery, drug, mass merchants and discount stores. In addition, the Company produces bleached paperboard used by quality-conscious printers and packaging converters. Strategic, thought leader responsible for the direction of the enterprise benefit and wellness programs; including design, implementation, management, communication, compliance, and evaluation of programs. Ensures programs meet budgetary, legal and company culture requirements. Develops, recommends and installs approved, new or modified plans and related policies and supervises administration of existing plans.  Provides oversight for annual benefit processes, vendor management, benefit system design and compliance. Lead benefits and wellness team to ensure company objectives and development of team are successfully achieved.

  • Establish strategic direction for benefit programs (including health, welfare, wellness, life, disability plans, and retirement plans) for employees at all levels of the organization in support of company objectives
  • Partner with external resources (e.g., consultants and vendors) to identify, select, communicate, and implement best solutions
  • Lead the team responsible for administering, analyzing, and modifying programs to ensure programs are providing optimum ROI
  • Manage the budgeting and annual renewal process for programs to include plan design, vendor negotiations, communications, and enrollment initiatives
  • • Maintain knowledge and ensure company compliance to legislation and SOX compliance impacting benefit programs (ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, FMLA, etc)
  • Manage analysis and reporting processes required for compliance with Federal, state, and regulatory agencies such as IRS, DOL, PBGC, while maintaining an on-going awareness of competitive practices through participation in competitive surveys and attending educational seminars 
  • Collaboration with other functional areas in the company (e.g., finance, legal, risk management, etc.) to investigate innovative programs, to determine feasibility in terms of cost, risk to the company, and legal implications
  • Provide consultation to HRBPs, employees, and management regarding program communication, administration, and issue resolution
  • Partner with labor relations to ensure strategic objectives are met, particularly during contract negotiations
  • Provide oversight and leadership for effective communication of programs and facilitate training employees in benefits offerings, tools, systems and processes
  • Participate as SME during mergers, acquisitions and divestitures
  • Direct a team of professionals in strategic and tactical company initiatives
  • Responsible for team staffing, training, development, and performance management
  • Ensure company has appropriate benefit policies, procedures, and documentation in place, are adequately communicated, and employees comply
  • Partner with internal audit to ensure on-going compliance for all plan offerings
  • Partner with the Payroll/HRMS team on understanding HR systems for capturing benefit elections and deductions, dependent information, reporting capabilities, and vendor interfaces (enrollment and termination), etc.
  • Partner HR systems configuration to facilitate plan enrollment, coverage, etc.
  • Responsible for external (vendor-provided) web tools and portals; provide end-user training and issue resolution as appropriate



  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Minimum 10 years’ demonstrated experience in benefit design, analysis, team management, vendor relations
  • CBP, CEBS, GPHR, or other certification desired
  • Experience working with all levels of the organization, from C-suite down
  • Experience working with labor unions, particularly in plan design and administration
