Director of Communications and Engagement

EBSCO Information Services’ Human Resources Department has an exciting new role for an experienced individual to spearhead Employee Engagement across all regions of our growing Company. The role encompasses key aspects of how the Company connects and relates to employees and to the community, including communications, rewards and recognition, corporate responsibility and volunteerism and employee engagement. The role is critical in driving HR functional excellence and process improvement across the organization, as well as in creating an environment that motivates and inspires employees. This individual will develop strategies, programs, and plans to drive the employee value proposition and engagement for our most critical asset – our people.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manages the development, measurement and execution of EIS’ internal communications strategy in order to effectively communicate initiatives to employees across the organization and, on occasion, external audiences as needed.
  • Serves as a strategic communication partner supporting leadership and functional teams by writing, editing, coordinating, planning, providing counsel, and executing employee communications and events.
  • Proactively identifies opportunities to build processes and standards in order to add value, solve problems and address the communications needs of the business.
  • Creates and deploys employee recognition strategies, including reviewing and making recommendations for departmental recognition programs.
  • Coordinates and facilitates focus groups, surveys, town halls, one-on-one interviews, and other methodologies. Ensures a continuous perspective on the employee experience, as informed through multiple data points including quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Leads the development of EIS Diversity and Inclusion Strategy in partnership with HR and Business Leaders.
  • Creates and facilitates Employee Resource Groups on key organizational initiatives to encourage employee lead change.
  • Optimizes Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives, engaging employees with our selected programs and partners.
  • Collaborates with and builds relationships across functional divisions, departments, and key external stakeholders as necessary.
  • Leads projects and other key initiatives as assigned.

  • 7-10 years of overall work experience, 3-5 years’ experience leading internal communications initiatives.
  • 3+ years of experience in a role requiring strong organizational skills and demonstrated capability to develop and implement practical communications strategies, plans, and solutions.
  • 3+ years of experience in a role with an emphasis in communication, writing, and organizational skills, and the ability to convey complex concepts and strategies in a clear, concise and logical manner – translating them into visual programming and content.
  • 3+ years of Project management experience leading complex projects between departments and with multiple stakeholders.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to facilitate mutual understanding and work effectively with a wide variety of people at all levels.
  • Ability to manage complex tasks simultaneously, coordinate the roles of various participants in projects, set priorities and schedules, and meet deadlines with a minimum of supervision.
  • Excellent interpersonal, facilitation, program management and presentation skills.
  • Proven results orientation, creative problem solving, high quality decision making. Strong mind-set for continuous improvement to meet or exceed expectations.
  • Develops professional network both internally and externally and has a solid profile to help identify best practices for the function.
  • Experience in Professional Services, Technology or Information Services with global remit preferred.
