A local chemical manufacturer is currently seeking a Director of Human Resources to lead the HR activities of the organization. This is an excellent career opportunity for a hands-on Director of Human Resources who has an enthusiastic attitude, a strong work ethic, and strong knowledge of human resources and employee relations.

Reporting to the CFO, the Director Human Resources is responsible for coordinating and directing the employee relations programs and functions for both the plant and office environments with responsibility for all people processes, programs and related activities which contribute to the success of the business. With accountability for overseeing the day-to-day delivery of operational HR activities in the areas of recruitment and selection, performance management, employee relations, policies and compliance, compensation and benefits, training and development, and organizational development, the Director Human Resources role is focused on ensuring a high quality, consistent and streamlined approach to service delivery.

The ideal candidate will have strong background of on-going positive labor/management relations in a unionized manufacturing environment. The candidate must have experience as the Bargaining Chief Spokesperson for labor contract administration, and managing multiple sites.


Key Responsibilities include:

  • Serving as an active member of the Strategic Leadership Team
  • Building and maintaining positive, productive labor relations through compliance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement process, grievance resolution, contract administration, and collective bargaining
  • Leading organizational effectiveness initiatives such as: performance management program, talent development and succession planning, recruitment, compensation and benefits, training, etc.
  • Evaluates and advises on the impact of long-range planning of new programs/strategies and regulatory action as those items affect the attraction, motivation, development and retention of people resources throughout the organization
  • Communicating and sharing Company vision throughout organization and providing cross-functional perspective, direction, support and leadership
  • Ensuring compliance with all federal, state and local employment laws 
  • Acting as a liaison between management & employees by communicating and supporting Company policies and decisions in a positive manner
  • Providing mentoring and development for HR team

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resource management or related field required, SPHR/SHRM-SCP Certification preferred
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in a unionized manufacturing environment
  • Thorough knowledge of HR principles and federal/local regulations
  • Proven ability to lead and develop talent and obtain results through others
  • Collective bargaining experience as the chief spokesperson; labor contract administration; negotiation and change management skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and HRIS software
  • Extraordinary discretion, flexibility, and willingness to work closely with senior management team
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills
  • Demonstrated “can do” attitude and a positive outlook
