Job Details

THE ORGANIZATION:

The Walton Family Foundation believes in the power of philanthropy to create opportunity. Sam and Helen Walton had an unshakeable belief in the power of people to transform their own lives.

With nearly a half billion dollars in annual grantmaking -- and growing -- WFF is one of the largest foundations in the country, and continues to move forward with increasing intensity, focus and commitment to sustaining the Waltons’ timeless entrepreneurial values and their deep dedication to making life better for individuals and communities alike. By working with grantees and collaborating with other philanthropic organizations, the foundation is focused on making a positive difference in three primary program areas of collective interest to the Walton Family:

  • K-12 Education: Empowering parents with quality school choices
  • Environment: Protecting natural resources and building economies
  • Home Region: Measurably improving the quality of life in our home region of Arkansas and the Mississippi Delta

Strategy, learning and evaluation play a central role in providing actionable information – including informing priorities for projects and organizations to be funded, as well as informing us about the foundation’s progress toward achieving our overarching strategy and initiative goals.

In addition to funding these primary areas, the foundation supports the grantmaking interests of individual and groups of Walton family members.

Headquartered in Bentonville, Arkansas, with offices in Washington, D.C., Jersey City, New Jersey, and Denver, Colorado, a passionate staff of over 110 conducts the day-to-day operations of the foundation.

Equally visionary and pragmatic, the Director of People understands that people are the powerful strategic asset needed for success. S/he must bring: deep expertise in strategic human capital program development and implementation; change-management skills to support a learning organization; and a track record of success in a lean and flat structured, fast-paced mission-driven organization.
