Job Details

The Director of Talent Development will lead the design, implementation, and evaluation of talent management and development programs for the organization. This new role will partner with business leaders to create a team that will develop high value Learning and Development programs to align with the SMI culture and values.

  • Champion, design, develop and lead the implementation of professional development programs consistent with the mission, vision, and values of SMI;
  • Architect and execute talent development programs to drive professional growth and accountability across the organization;
  • Confers with leaders, in all areas of the organization, to select training that coincides with the SMI mission, vision and values and to ensure a consistent company message throughout all company delivered training programs;
  • Consult with corporate business leaders to understand their leadership and management development needs to ensure appropriate engagement and alignment is achieved;
  • Explore, develop and promote the use of online resources, training modules and other outlets to increase access to training and development opportunities;
  • Demonstrate and develop a consistent “language”, competency identification, and communication plan of the skills and practices required to be a successful leader;
  • Connect the career development strategy with the business strategy;
  • Develop a consistent methodology for monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of development activities;
  • Drive employee development, and a culture of learning, through a company mentor program;
  • Set the basic schedule of career development activities throughout the year to coincide with operational, human resources and business goals;
  • Acts as the influential leader by impacting cultural awareness and the way employees think, act and behave as an SMI team member;
  • Ensure budget for design and execution is managed efficiently;
  • Lead internal communication and engagement efforts to ensure employees have knowledge of and access to L&D curriculum;
  • Lead career and succession planning process, including connection to recruitment and performance management.
  • Ability to organize training programs, including; creating and selecting courses, content, and materials;
  • Ability to recruit and establish a Talent & Learning Management team to drive the ongoing learning needs of the organization;
  • Act as a subject matter expert in Learning & Development and have a proven track record of working independently to build and lead a progressive talent development team;
  • Demonstrated ability to translate business strategies into critical talent & workforce strategies and initiatives; 
  • Ability to innovate and challenge current norms to drive change in the organization and work with employees of various backgrounds and seniority levels;
  • The ability to manage multiple projects with extensive detail coordination;
  • Have high-energy communication and presentation skills;
  • Strategic thinking skills;
  • Experience and capability to build credibility throughout the organization;
  • Excellent decision making and critical-thinking skills;
  • Skilled in designing and delivering compelling learning experiences with a blended learning approach.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of instructional design and adult learning methodologies, curriculum and content development;
  • A strong entrepreneurial spirit, innovator and creative thinker;
  • Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Business or Learning and Development.
  • Ten years’ experience in Learning and Development with supervisory experience.
  • Previous experience using a Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Deep learning and development industry knowledge.
  • Working knowledge of instructional design, curriculum and content development, multi-methods of training delivery, learning platforms, evaluation and performance support. Certified Professional in Learning & Performance (CPLP) certification, preferred.
