Compensation: Grade: D $56,933 - $70,946

Under the direction of the Deputy Director the Sr. Specialist will conduct investigations that include EEO and Title VI.  The Sr. Specialist will also conduct trainings on various EEO issues. 



Receive and investigate complaints of discrimination and harassment, and determine validity of complaints, and resolve informally or recommend appropriate action to formally resolve complaints,

Conduct EEO and Diversity trainings to MNR Employees,

Assist and support the department with the development of diversity and recruitment/sourcing initiatives to increase employee engagement, diversity awareness, and cultural competence in support of corporate goals,

Ensure organizational MNR compliance with applicable EEO and Title VI regulations,

Collect documentation about MNR policies and procedures relevant to complaints of discrimination,

Provide support to MNR Diversity & EEO for the successful completion of all goals and initiatives as necessary,

Collaborate with MNR internal partners on EEO investigations when appropriate,

Maintain accurate records of all documents as they relate to the mission of Diversity & EEO complaint resolutions.



Excellent verbal and written communications skills.

Flexibility to adapt to changing business environments and organizational requirements.

Maintain a high degree of confidentiality and discretion in handling and processing confidential information and data.

Ability to process intake interviews.

Knowledge of PeopleSoft applications and/or comparable applications.

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel and outside clients.

Excellent attention to detail. 

Strong ability to prioritize workload with adherence to deadlines.

Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment.

In-depth knowledge of MS Office Suite and/or comparable applications. 

Excellent organization and coordination skills to work on multiple projects simultaneously.


Preferred Qualifications 

Familiarity with the fundamentals of equal employment opportunity, as well as experience conducting employee investigations in a large organization.  Strong research skills and Records Management experience.


Required Education/Experience

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college

Minimum of two (2) years of experience conducting investigations in EEO, labor relations, employee relations and/or related field.

For applicants who are current employees, you must be in active service and have worked in your present position for at least one (1) year to be eligible to apply for a posted position, and have completed the agreed upon formal training commitment, plus on-the-job training, if applicable (for example: Signal Trainee, Foreman-In-Training, etc.) in order to be eligible to transfer. If you are transferred, you may be required to forfeit your seniority in your present occupation. In addition, Metro-North employees are subjected to an internal investigation, which includes an evaluation of their safety and discipline records and their performance assessments.

As an employee of Metro-North Railroad you may be required to complete a New York State financial disclosure statement, if you earn more than $91,821.00 or if you hold a position designated as a policy maker.
