The Employee Relations & Development Specialist is the primary college resource for complex employee relations issues. This individual must have knowledge of all federal, state, and local laws pertaining to employment, including EEO, ADA, ADEA & FLSA. 

This individual advises supervisors and assists with employee counseling, conducts investigations and ensures consistency and fairness in the delivery of the college’s progressive corrective action procedure. The Employee Relations & Development Specialist also coordinates exit interviews, replies to unemployment claims and appeals, and ensures that all employee actions are well documented.

The Employee Relations & Development Specialist is responsible for many aspects of employee development including performance appraisal management, new employee orientation and the on-boarding process; acts as the administrator for the College’s required training programs (both classroom-based and online); and conducts training. 

Other duties include developing, planning and communicating employee engagement and recognition programs and events to staff.  This individual serves on appropriate committees and performs other duties as assigned by the Director for Human Resources and Employee Development.

This is an exempt, professional staff position.


A bachelor's degree and a minimum of three years of related experience are required; an associate's degree with significant HR experience, certification, and/or training may be considered. 

Candidates must have experience and expertise in managing complex employee relations issues; knowledge of all applicable employment laws and regulations (EEO, ADA, ADEA, FLSA, UI); experience with employee development (orientation, on-boarding, training systems); the ability to manage 3rd party supported systems; and the creativity and communication skills to implement employee engagement strategies

PHR/SPHR or SHRM-PC/SHRM-SPC certifications preferred.
