Job Details

As a member of the CUA Human Resources Department, the Sr. HR Generalist serves as a strategic partner and consultant to managers on human resources and organizational issues with a focus on employee relations.  The Sr. HR Generalist areas of expertise include, but are not limited to, HR programs, policy and procedure interpretation and implementation, employee relations, and employee development. The position develops recommendations to resolve HR issues in accordance with applicable law or university policies, programs, or practices.

Investigates and works with managers and employees to resolve employee relations complaints and problems. Tracks complaints and issues for analysis and reporting. Participates in planning and conducting human resources interventions. Identifies and makes recommendations for proactive employee relations strategies.Creates an environment of positive employee relations, keeps confidentiality, and establishes trust and credibility. Seen by employees and managers as approachable and fair, balances business needs with employee needs. Spends significant time interfacing directly with employees.Works on union contract interpretation for staff, and participates in labor negotiation meetings.Works with managers to address and resolve employee performance problems for staff. Advises on development/ implementation of Performance Improvement Plans.Supports and properly applies CUA policies and practices. Investigates and ensures fair resolution of issues with CUA policies and practices.Assists in the development and implementation of new or modified human resource policies and procedures and ensures that changes support existing policies.Coaches and mentors employees and managers for improved business performance and engagement.Provides training on employee relations issues.Prepares reports conforming to legislative requirements or organization needs.Independently advises management regarding complex HR issues to ensure the consistent application of practices in compliance with legal requirements and university policy.Manages the affirmative action plan.Serves as an equal employment opportunity specialist.Monitors and evaluates employee satisfaction and attrition levels and recommends strategies and employee-focused programs and activities aimed to improve employee engagement and retention.


Requirements

A Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of five (5) years generalist or specialist experience in HR and three years of specialized experience in employee relations, conducting investigations, performing HR interventions, advising managers on performance improvement plans, and interpreting and negotiating union contracts.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with affirmative action plans is strongly desired. Non-profit or service provider industry is preferred.  Experience with a shared services model is a plus.
