In addition to the leadership responsibilities at his or her hospital, the Group Chief Human Resources Officer champions the implementation of the Tenet Operating System.  She/he coordinates HR initiatives and provides feedback on operational priorities to colleagues in the enterprise HR function.  She/he focuses on the acquisition, development and the culture of talent as a critical driver in achieving business strategies and goals.  The CHRO proactively works with hospital leadership in his or her hospital to manage the people metrics with the expected outcomes of minimal turnover, effectively manages SWB expense, high employee engagement, high quality patient care, and excellent experience for all patients, visitors, physicians and employees. 


(Includes 13 hospitals within the Detroit, Chicago and Philadelphia Groups)


Detroit Group (seven hospitals):

DMC Children’s Hospital of Michigan, 228 beds, key service lines include Pediatric Surgery, Level I Trauma for Children, Cardiology, and NICU Services.


DMC Harper-Hutzel Hospital, 584 beds, key service lines include Neurology, Bariatrics, Transplant, Otolaryngology, Cardiology, and Women’s Services.


DMC Heart Hospital, 80 beds, key service lines include Emergency Angioplasty, Laser Atherectomy, Peripheral Procedures with Cryoplasty, Pacemaker Placement, Open-Heart Surgery, Internal Defibrillator Placement, and Radio-Frequency Ablation.


DMC Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital, 158 beds, key service lines include Orthopedics, Robotic Surgery, and Women’s Services.


DMC Receiving Hospital, 273 beds, key service lines include Level 1 Trauma Center, Primary Stroke Center, and Hyperbaric Oxygen Program.


DMC Rehab Institute of Michigan, 97 beds, key service lines include Rehabilitation Medicine and Research, Spinal Cord Injury, Brain Injury, Stroke, Orthopaedics, Amputee and Catastrophic Injury,  30+ Sports Medicine and Orthopaedics Outpatient Sites.


DMC Sinai-Grace Hospital, 404 beds, key service lines include Ontology, Gerontology, Women’s Services, Orthopedics, and Joint-Replacement Surgery.


  • Develop and execute HR strategies, programs and initiatives that directly align with business plans and strategies
  • Champion the journey toward becoming a “best place to work in healthcare” by fostering a high-performance culture that delivers high quality patient care and excellent patient experience
  • Be a valuable business partner to and high-performing member of the hospital A-Team and Group, including problem solving, decision support and leadership development
  • Deliver core HR services including recruiting (where centralized services are not employed), employee relations, employee health/safety, delivery of employee learning and development programs, and HR legal/regulatory compliance
  • Partner on implementation of HR enterprise services, oversight of salary/wages/benefits (e.g., labor standards/staffing, contract labor, overtime, premium pay), and performance on HR operations scorecard/metrics
  • Manage short- and long-term workforce plans based on local and national trends and projections


Responsible for day-to-day operations that promote retention and efficient SWB within the hospital to include:

  • Focus on creating a unique culture as a differentiator to develop our employment brand
  • Deliver onboarding and orientation activities to create a positive new employment experience
  • Foster high employee engagement through customized action plans
  • Facilitate employee recognition
  • Deliver timely and informative internal communications to employees
  • Oversee overall pay and labor staffing seeking opportunities to improve productivity
  • Deliver on HR KPIs and metrics  


Serve as a “point person” or coordinator for HR leaders in the Group:

  • Champion adoption of the Tenet Operating System
  • Coordinate communications that bring clarity and organization effectiveness
  • Identify opportunities for the HR function to improve service delivery
  • Participate in process improvements that result in timely decision-making and elimination of unnecessary work
  • Communicate best practices for dissemination across the organization

Responsible for day-to-day operations that minimize and mitigate employer risk to include:

  • Select and manage top HR talent in the hospital and facilitate the development of HR staff in the Group
  • Ensure compliance with all HR regulatory requirements, employment law, and Joint Commission HR standards in market hospitals
  • Work with HR Directors to respond to EEO complaints and prepare position statements
  • Facilitate the company’s defined FTP process
  • Direct and ensure overall workplace safety and employee health within the market with significant input from the Employee Health Nurse, Nursing, Infection Control and Infectious Disease to ensure that employees have confidence that they are provided a safe work place
  • Ensure proper planning, response and reporting to the following agencies with respect to employee health and occupational safety: Joint Commission, OSHA, CDC, other federal, state and local

Responsible for strategic workforce planning for the hospital to include:

  • Project workforce gaps considering current staff, local labor market, and national healthcare statistics, trends, and projections
  • Develop workforce strategies, including full-time/part-time/per diem mix, staffing models, and education strategies/partnerships to prepare workforce for future
  • Implement Tenet-wide leadership development programs including talent mapping, succession planning, emerging talent programs, leadership academies, and other Tenet development programs
  • Support implementation of Tenet HR enterprise shared services
  • Facilitate leadership education and development (e.g., effectiveness, diversity and inclusion)



Experience:  10 years in an HR leadership role

Hospital/health care experience is preferred but not required

Demonstrated track record of sustaining a highly engaged workplace by creating superior employee and patient/consumer experience



BS degree in Business, HR Management or related field strongly recommended

Master’s degree or SPHR preferred but not required
