Job Details

The American Trucking Associations (ATA), the nation’s leading trade and lobby association representing the trucking industry, has an opening for a Human Resources Business Partner. The incumbent in this role will work with assigned departments, functional areas, and will provide consultation, recommendations and solutions on a variety of organizational issues.

This position will be responsible for executing HR strategies and activities that positively impacts the organizational effectiveness. The HR Business Partner will report to the Vice President Human Resources and will have no supervisory or budgetary responsibilities.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with HR functional partners to execute human resources strategies to enable business objectives and support future business growth;

  • Identifies and analyzes trends related to recurring issues and recommends strategies to help resolve the issue;

  • Provides day-to-day performance management guidance to management (e.g., coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions, succession planning, and identifying high performers);

  • In collaboration with management, oversees group health, welfare and benefit plans to include: medical, dental, Life, AD&D, LTD, STD, FSA, EAP and COBRA by ensuring timely enrollments and terminations and providing employees with benefit statements;

  • Responsible for reconciling and preparing for approval benefit related invoices;

  • Oversees employee retirement and deferred compensation plans to include: 401(k), 457(b) and the ATA Pension Plan; ensuring enrollments and terminations are processed; provide employees with benefit statements; respond and follow up on pension requests; coordinate trustees’ meeting minutes; develop a tracking system that ensures that plans are compliant; coordinates annual benefit open enrollments in conjunction with developing quarterly benefit updates; conducting new hire benefit orientations; assisting new employees with benefit selections; troubleshooting employee benefit issues; preparing separation documents for terminating employees;

  • Partners with VP of HR on complex employee relations issues. Conducts effective, thorough and objective investigations;

  • Maintains in-depth knowledge of HR compliance and provides HR policy guidance and interpretation;

  • Works closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention;

  • Participates in evaluation and monitoring of training programs to ensure success. Follows up to ensure training objectives are met;

  • Identify current and forecasted talent needs and, develop action plans to mitigate associated risk;

  • Acts as project leader as appropriate on assigned initiatives.


Knowledge and Skills:

BS/BA required, minimum of 3-5 years’ HR Generalist experience required. Must be proficient in all aspects of benefits administration and management, employee relations, performance management and training. Must have excellent verbal and written communications skills and understand the importance of maintaining confidentiality with all aspects of the position. Proven experience with designing and supporting cultural change strategies. Previous experience working with managers as a trusted advisor. Experience working with and extrapolating data from HRIS systems, Ceridian Dayforce a plus. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, VISO).
