Position Summary:

As a member of the DRS Electro-Optical & Infrared Systems and Land Electronics senior leadership team the HR Director directs and manages human resources activities in compliance with Company philosophy, objectives and legal requirements. Recommends and leads the implementation of HR programs, policies, procedures and practices that focus on attracting, retaining and developing the employee base of approximately 900 employees.  Responsible for the overall administration, coordination and evaluation of the Human Resources function.The HR Director will have a dual reporting relationship with the Vice President/General Manager Electro-Optical & Infrared Systems and the Vice President/General Manager Land Electronics.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Leads and manages a Multi-Site HR Function with the HR staff located at Melbourne, Florida, Dallas, Texas, Huntsville, Alabama and Cypress, California.

  • As the HR Leader acts as a resource to the business on HR topics; designs and delivers HR solutions in response to various requests and needs in the areas of: employee relations, recruiting, training and development curriculum, overall administration of compensation and benefit programs; ensures compliance with legislated requirements such as EEO, wage and hour, ADA, OSHA

  • Consults with, advises, and coaches the management team and employees on a range of issues related to managing people and developing organizational capabilities, including performance, career development, and, diversity

  • Leads the succession planning and talent review process for the organization(s). Oversees the implementation of development and training programs to enhance current skills and develop new skills required for the future needs of the business. Also, ensures plans are formalized and managed for development of high potential employees.

  • Fosters an engaged employee workforce allowing employees to provide input into decision making process affecting their jobs, units or departments

  • Leads the recruitment process for the Electro-Optical & Infrared Systems and Land Electronics Lines of Business, and provides guidance on manpower planning for current and future needs of the business

  • Oversees the administration of the compensation and benefits programs for Electro-Optical & Infrared Systems and Land Electronics LOBs to include performance management, pay adjustments, incentive and bonus programs

  • Identifies, analyzes escalated employee relation problems and takes appropriate action to correct such problems

  • Coordinates with HR Corporate and Legal on legal concerns, terminations, lawsuits and compliance issues

     

  • Directs and maintains various activities designed to promote and maintain a high level of employee morale

  • Develops and manages an annual budget for the department and manages expenses within established guidelines

  • Assess the HR team’s training and development needs, coaches and provides solutions

  • Serves as company EEO specialist

  • Conducts initial investigations involving harassment, EEOC, and similar types of claims ensuring legal compliance, as directed

  • May oversee workers compensation claims and coordinates work with insurance carrier and Corporate staff

Requirements

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree and 10+ years required with a minimum of five years of HR leadership experience or an equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities

  • In-depth knowledge of Human Resources Policy, Employee Relations, and Organizational Development. Knowledgeable with other HR disciplines. Able to identify situations and manage across functional areas.

  • Ability to identify, analyze, develop solutions and make decisions on complex or unique issues which address the company's business needs

  • High energy level, team player, who is comfortable performing multi-faceted projects in conjunction with normal activities

  • Enormous level of interpersonal skills, tact, professional maturity and flexibility

  • Strong communication skills and proven success in communicating effectively not only with management but with all levels of the organization, both internally and externally.

  • Demonstrated conflict resolution and negotiation skills. Ability to objectively coach employees and management through complex, difficult, and emotional issues

  • Ability to multi task, organize and prioritize work

  • Experience in an engineering and manufacturing environment is required

  • Experience working with HRIS systems to include ADP, Learning Management/Performance Management Systems is required

  • Strong communication skills and proven success in communicating effectively with all levels of the organization, both internally and externally.

  • Demonstrated conflict resolution and negotiation skills. Ability to objectively coach employees and management through complex, difficult, and emotional issues

  • Background in employment law and other government compliance regulations is preferred

  • Experience in a government contracting environment is preferred

  • Successful candidate may be subject to a government sponsored background for possible access to government owned information in addition to any background check that DRS may require for employment
