Position Summary: 

The Human Resources Generalist directly supports the Director of Human Resources to ensure that all employment policies and practices are followed and administered in a consistent, fair, equitable, and culturally competent manner that maintains the confidentiality and integrity of the Human Resources Team.  Must be able to plan, organize, and follow through on tactical projects and strategic initiatives, effectively use time management techniques, work independently, and exercise common sense to reach sound professional judgments on issues within areas of responsibility. 

Core Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Director of Human Resources to update company and human resources policies and procedures to ensure that they stay current with state and federal law, and with HR best practices.
  • Work closely with the Director of Human Resources to ensure consistent implementation of company and human resource policies and procedures.
  • Assist the Director of Human Resources in the research, design, implementation, and maintenance of HR software modules that enhance the service delivery of the Human Resources Department and the company, including updating and maintaining electronic employee records.
  • Create and publish required personnel management reports as needed.
  • Contribute effectively to the accomplishment of strategic initiatives, work goals, objectives, and activities.
  • Initiate and share positive ideas that will improve team functions and roles.
  • Exercise empathy and diplomacy in dealing with sensitive, complex, and confidential personnel issues and employee situations.
  • Oversee maintenance of all external and internal reporting data on new hires and terminations, and submit necessary information on a timely basis to ensure that all required reports are timely filed, including taxonomy updates.
  • Conduct internal audits of HR processes and recommend process improvements.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationship with the Corporate Benefits Administrator to ensure consistent and timely communication regarding staff eligibility. 
  • Enter Personnel Changes into the HRIS system, and work with payroll to ensure that changes are timely processed.
  • Develops and maintains affirmative action program to ensure EEO compliance and reporting. 
  • Oversee Workers’ Compensation reporting, MPN relationship, and claims review.
  • Provide administrative assistance to the Corporate Director of Human Resources as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Minimum one (2) years’ experience working in a Human Resources office environment.
  • Experience using Paychex HRO or other HRIS systems is a plus.


  • Current PHR and/or SHRM-CP Certification strongly preferred.
  • Valid California driver’s license, maintain current automobile insurance, and must be eligible to drive for the Corporation.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in writing using proper sentence structure.
  • Ability verbally to communicate clearly and effectively. 
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Office programs, such as Word, PowerPoint, MS Excel and Outlook.
  • Basic knowledge of HR Information Systems is required.
  • Must possess excellent organizational skills. 
  • Must be able to prioritize and complete multiple tasks with a minimum of guidance.
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems and propose possible solutions.
  • Ability to function as a team player.
  • Ability to maintain a good working relationship with outside vendors, consultants, and other EHRS employees.
  • Ability to perform in a positive, courteous, flexible, and adaptive manner.

Physical Requirements:

  • See well enough (with or without corrected vision) to read fine print, hand-written materials, and a computer screen.
  • Speak and hear well enough (with or without assistive device) to converse in person and over the telephone.
  • Finger, handle, feel, and reach with hands and arms, including ability to use a computer keyboard.
  • Have the mobility (with or without assistive device) to stand, sit, crouch, and move from one work area to another.
  • Have the strength to lift, carry or push office equipment and supplies used in normal job functions up to 20 lbs.
  • Stamina to effectively perform work activities.
