About Us:

We love pets, but they aren’t the best arbiters for their own cause.  Don’t worry, they’re not offended by that.  They give us endless love, compassion, loyalty and cuddles.  It’s our end of the bargain to give them food, shelter, protection and endless tummy rubs.  That’s why it’s our mission to put pets in homes and keep them there - because all pets are meant to be with good people.

Your Role with Us:

We are not your ordinary non-profit. We prefer to think of ourselves as an innovative and mission-driven social enterprise. If you can’t tell by now - we like to think outside of the box. And if you do too, we’ll probably be a great match. We are just regular people that have an extreme passion for pets and an idea to change the world for them.

In this role you’ll get to interact with a lot of people, pets, and personalities. But that’s okay, because that’s what makes you thrive. You can handle a lot of things coming at you at once. You’re probably really good at whack-a-mole.

We expect you will work hard and play hard. Collaboration is the way we work best. We believe that a multitude of creative minds working together makes all the difference.

You Will:

  • Be the peoplest of people people. Be a leader throughout our organization. Interact with employees and managers to assist with questions and policy clarification; make on-site visits to stores to provide face-to-face HR availability.

  • Be a key part of positioning the HR department as a strategic partner through organization growth and change.

  • Have a really big closet - because you get to wear A LOT of hats.

  • Administer and manage all of the day to day aspects of the HR department, including: recruitment, benefits, payroll, worker’s compensation, ACA, LOA, 401(k)  and compliance. You definitely know what’s going on.

  • Process payroll bi-weekly for 70 employees. Make sure our employees get paid accurately and on time. Be a Guru when it comes to HRIS, Payroll, and Timekeeping maintenance. There is no issue that you cannot conquer!

  • Manage health benefit enrollments throughout the year along with annual open enrollment.  Educate employees on benefits so they can choose the best plans for themselves. Also manage the COBRA process and end of year ACA compliance and filing. Manage 401(k) enrollments and program.

  • Oversee the WC and LOA process. Employees know that they can go to you for assistance.

  • Handle recruitment.  You love to interview candidates and guide them through the recruitment process.

  • Pay the the bills! Work with accounting to code and  pay all benefit invoices that come your way.

  • Conduct all on-boarding and off-boarding procedures. You’re the gatekeeper!

  • Oversee professional development for our employees. Select monthly topics and guide them in training that fit their wants and needs.  

  • Be the go to person when anyone has a question about anything HR related.

  • Assist in the creation of policies and procedures - you know what works and what doesn’t.

  • Be organized! You are so organized that your closet is probably arranged according to color right now. You know who you are. But seriously, this skills comes in handy because organizing employee files and HR documents is a breeze for you.

  • Hangout with us when we have delicious snacks at happy hour and join in the fun when we have a game night.

  • Have a cheerful heart and be passionate about our mission.

  • Learn something new every. single. day. Not learning is sooo last year.

  • Do your job to the best of your ability, understanding that you are saving lives everyday.

  • Run from anyone that says you won’t succeed.


You Gotta:

  • Have experience being an HR Superhero - at least 3 years’ in the HR game.

  • Have experience working with HRIS systems and processing payroll. Experience with Ascentis and or ADP is a plus! .

  • Knowledge of federal and state human resources compliance laws.

  • Have a degree from an awesome accredited school or experience that blows our minds!

  • Know what the H-E-Double Hockey Sticks you’re doing when you’re using Gsuite.

  • Be accepting and welcoming of change, knowing that change is an opportunity to enhance and refine.

  • Must love puppies & kittens. But, really, who doesn’t?

  • Be a multi-tasking Guru when it comes to juggling many different projects at a time.

  • Be able to communicate effectively with all types of people and pets (and if you can actually talk to pets - let us know your secret. We’ve been trying for years!).

  • A burning desire to make a difference and save the lives of pets.
