The Neil Jones Food Company, Purveyors of superior quality, fresh packed California tomatoes and Northwest fruit, headquartered in Vancouver, Washington seeks an Human Resource Generalist to join our Northwest Packing based team in Vancouver, Washington.  The Neil Jones Food Company is a well-established privately held food Manufacturing Company with manufacturing facilities in the states of California and Washington.

SUMMARY:

The HR Generalist serves as a consultant to employees on various Human Resources related matters in food manufacturing environment including, but not limited to, recruiting, industrial relations, benefits, affirmative action, new employee orientation, training, payroll, employee relations, and / or other special projects.  The HR Generalist maintains an effective level of business literacy about the business and its competition.  Ideal candidate will be proficient in both English and Spanish. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Using HRIS and other information systems answer employee questions and provide information and assistance regarding issues such as the collective bargaining agreement, work hours and schedules, benefits, vacation, and payroll, among others.
  • Coordinate and conduct new employee orientation and seasonal employee recall and orientation processes.
  • Perform recruitment and job posting activities for hourly (union and non-union) and salaried positions as assigned, such as requisition preparation, job posting, applicant tracking, screening, interview protocol development assistance, and interviewing.
  • Enforce and support HR programs and policies including the site’s Collective Bargaining Agreement, Affirmative Action, Substance Abuse Prevention Program, HIPAA, and workers’ compensation or other Corporate or site level programs/policies.
  • Maintain accurate HR files and records including hourly personnel files and training records.
  • May process hourly payroll and monitor benefit programs.  May enter hourly time records and /or union employees into the HRIS/payroll system and/or coordinate with the centralized HRIS/payroll department.
  • May administer hourly compensation provisions of labor agreement in compliance with the agreement and governmental requirements
  • Assists with administration of local bargaining agreement.
  • Perform and / or participate on reviews and investigations of employee matters as necessary or assigned.
  • Conduct various special studies and prepares various personnel reports.
  • Work with HR Manager to deliver or coordinate delivery of training.
  • Assist in coordination of business meetings or company functions.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all areas of responsibility.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with safety rules and regulations.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

Skills, knowledge, abilities:

  • Basic knowledge of Human Resource concepts and company HR policies, programs and procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal and conflict management skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • Good written and oral communication skills in English and Spanish.
  • Knowledge of payroll and scheduling systems.
  • Demonstrated computer skills in standard Microsoft office software applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail to ensure timely and accurate transactions and documentation. 

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Human Resources Management, or related field.
  • 3+ years’ related HR work experience.
  • Or any equivalent combination of experience and education that demonstrates the ability to perform the key responsibilities of this position.
