Job Details

The Desert Research Institute (DRI) is seeking a Human Resources Generalist as a key human resources point of contact for multinational, highly educated employees, including students, volunteers, research and administrative professional and staff members, at all levels, at Reno, NV campus.

 

This role provides timely and accurate payroll, benefits, record keeping, recruiting, onboarding, performance development, employee relations, policy administration, HR information system self-service and management and employee guidance. In addition, the incumbent will perform one or more HR specialties of performance development, compensation, training or other specialty that services DRI employees at all campuses. Compiles data reports, surveys and HR metrics. Provides consistent policy administration, interpretation and communication; aligned with the Reno office and the Nevada System of Higher Education.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare, generate and edit payroll transactions, submit to payroll, resolve errors.
  • Monitor and manage Time and Attendance software and reporting tools.
  • Provide technical information and benefits assistance to employees on various insurance. programs such as medical, dental, vision, disability, life, and flexible spending plans; resolve problems or complaints and assist in resolving complex problems; coordinate benefits with DRI Benefits Manager, NSHE Benefits office (BCN), TIAA-CREF, Nevada Public Employees Benefit Program (PEBP) and Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS).
  • Provide HR Metrics reports, system setup, database testing and implementation support. Maintain accurate paper and electronic files.
  • Coordinate recruiting efforts for all types of vacant positions.
  • Communicate laws, policies and procedures, and provide direction on where to find guiding documentation.
  • Administer the onboarding process for employees, hourly and student workers and volunteers.
  • Provide training support including assistance in the development or acquisition of leadership and management training. Deliver training on a wide variety of HR topics to employees at all levels, throughout DRI as needed.
  • Serve as a performance management liaison and employee development champion.
 

Conditions of Employment

  • Employment is contingent upon a successful completion of a background check
  • Must be able to travel to Las Vegas and other DRI locations as needed
  • This position requires the ability to perform physical tasks of occasionally lifting 30 lbs., moving, lifting, or packing files for shipping or storage. Sitting for long periods and periodic stooping and bending
  • The individual who is offered and accepts this position must provide, within 30 working days of his/her start date of the position, a copy of the transcript(s) of the highest degree he/she acquired, as awarded by an accredited institute as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA)

 

Salary/Benefits

The starting annualized salary for a fully qualified individual in this position is $44,000 at 100% FTE, commensurate with experience. This position is eligible for DRI’s benefits package and relocation assistance. See this link for a benefits overview: Faculty Benefits

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development or closely related field
  • 1.5 years of full-time directly related professional HR experience
  • Experience using applicant tracking, HR information systems, databases and electronic filing and tracking tools
  • High level of proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite, with an emphasis on Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Ability to establish strong working relationships with team members, leaders, employees and NSHE and vendor points of contact
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve problems at the lowest possible level, using creative, win-win solutions
  • Technical knowledge of Federal and State employment laws, including clear understanding and application of policy and procedure manuals
  • Excellent interpersonal, teamwork and communication skills
  • Professionalism demonstrated through discretely and confidentially handling personnel matters and information
  • Proven schedule and cost management as demonstrated through successful project planning/delivery
