Job Description
POSITION TITLE:  Benefits Administrator for Clinical Faculty 
DEPARTMENT:  Human Resources & Development (HR&D) 

REPORTS TO:  Sr. Human Resources Manager 

GENERAL SUMMARY: The incumbent is a member of the HR&D team and supports the HR&D mission by providing comprehensive services to the population of 700 dually employed clinical faculty working in 21 clinical departments for the Health Services Foundation.  Supports Director of Human Resources and Physician Employment who partners with benefit vendors and consultants to research, design, recommend and maintain executive level benefit programs for clinical faculty; and works with benefit legal counsel, other HR&D staff, benefit actuarial staff, and plan vendors to analyze and process benefits at the employee and the company level. This position is responsible for accurately processing all human resource information system data entry related to physician employment.

Essential Functions of the Job:
 *Responsible for the daily administration and communication of the physician  benefit plans including timely design and distribution of plan documents, summary plan descriptions, and insurance certificates.
 *Collaborates with Physician Employment Coordinator on the processing and maintenance of the confidentiality of all payroll and benefit changes in the human resource information system.
 *Conducts clinical faculty UPG benefit orientation programs.
 *Provides support for all clinical faculty employment, benefit and compensation issues, including being the primary UPG resource to meet with individual prospective faculty, and conducting on-going individual or group benefit education meetings to promote retention.
 *Produces and distributes an annual clinicians’ compensation statement working in partnership with UVA and UVA benefit vendors and consultants.
 *Generates data for plan evaluations and special mailings.
 *Actively participates in the research, evaluation, design and maintenance of all clinical faculty employee fringe benefit programs.  Participates with reviews of RFPs, vendor proposals, analyzes contracts and presents recommendations to manager and/or department chairs.  Partners with other HR&D staff to finalize program selection, oversee the financial and accounting support and the procedures for daily maintenance of all physician benefit programs.
 *Processes physician retirement payments and tax withholdings from qualified and non-qualified pension plans.
 *Participates in the audit of physician benefit plans.
 *Maintains up-to-date familiarity with both UPG and UVA benefit plans, partnering with the UVA benefit and payroll office staff to coordinate clinical faculty benefit information.
 *Works with individual clinical faculty members to resolve employment and benefit related concerns and issues; serves as liaison in the process for UPG and UVA.
 *Responsible for development and maintenance of related human resources section federal filings, internal and external audits, documentation, forms, manuals and records. 
 *Responsible for activities of consultants, benefit vendors and legal counsel as related, but not limited to, the timely development and reporting of plan valuation and non-discrimination testing data, as required for plan Trust funding and IRS plan testing, as necessary.
 *Communicates and interprets policies and benefits to staff, supervisors, managers at UPG and clinical departments.
 *Collaborates with UPG payroll office to test and troubleshoot payroll changes.
Coordinates with UPG payroll, UVA HR, and SOM Dean’s office leave and short-term disability to ensure physicians on leave without pay status are processed accurately across entities.
 *Attends a variety of meetings and participates in committees as requested.
 *Performs other assignments as requested.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):
 Bachelor’s Degree in human resources, business or healthcare administration.
 PHR/SPHR a plus
 3-5 years of related experience, in an HR capacity including benefits, payroll and HR information systems.
 Working knowledge of qualified and non-qualified retirement plans to include defined benefit and defined contribution plans required.
 Experience in an academic healthcare setting preferred.
 Experience in a healthcare setting a plus.
 Advanced personal computer skills including applications in Microsoft Office suite.
 Advanced skill in word processing, spreadsheet, presentation and database software.
 In-depth experience utilizing an HR information system.
 Experience generating new or altering pre-existing HRIS reports.
 Excellent presentation skills (public speaking).
 Demonstrated teaching/training skills.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position will have no positions reporting to it.
