ZCL is currently recruiting for a Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) to be based in our Edmonton, Alberta Head Office or Minneapolis, MN Regional Office. This position offers an exceptional opportunity to champion and direct HR objectives within an industry-leading, multi-national company.

THE ROLE

Reporting to the Manager Human Resources, the HRBP will support the execution of human resource plans and objectives for two (2) US locations: Tipton, IA and Hagerstown, MD. You will work closely with the management team of your assigned area.  Accountabilities will include implementing human resource programs and initiatives and developing strategies and tactics to address specific human resources issues.  Core functions will include consulting with respect to employee and labor relations, dispute resolution, human resources metrics, labor forecasting, succession planning, organizational design and compensation.  This position will be required to travel up to 30% of the time in the completion of their duties. 

DUTIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Providing quality advice and interpretation related to US legislation and Human Resources policies
  • Advising, consulting, and/or coaching in employee and labor relations matters including performance management, workplace investigations or progressive corrective actions. Facilitating the resolution of complex workplace disputes.
  • Coaching and advising front-line managers in the interpretation and application of company policies and procedures as well as all related US employment legislation. Where applicable, provide coaching and advice in interpreting and administrating collective agreements
  • Providing coaching and support to management in regard to recruitment and selection for both hourly and salaried staff
  • Coordinating administrative procedures (e.g. creating, reviewing and placing job postings, short-listing candidates, conducting interviews, reference checking, and employment offer letter etc.) supporting the entire talent acquisition process
  • Providing guidance and support in regard to compensation decisions as per company guidelines
  • Leading the administration of new employee integration programs to ensure program effectiveness and overall accountability from all stakeholders
  • Providing consultative advice and guidance to business units in the following areas:
    • Forecasting workforce needs
    • Identifying high potential employees, and developing suitable career paths and employee development and succession plans
    • Conducting exit interviews and providing appropriate feedback to clients and corporate HR
  • Developing and applying tactics and strategies to address specific human resource issues within the business unit (e.g.: recruitment, retention, labor trends, etc.)
  • Providing advice and assistance in the planning and implementation of business unit organizational changes
  • Providing coaching, skill development and training to business unit management and staff
  • Monitoring and analyzing business unit human resource metrics
  • Assisting with special projects and initiatives as required

Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources or other related field.
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in a Human Resources generalist role, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a recruitment focused role.
  • Working knowledge of US Fair Labor Standards Act.
  • Experience providing Human Resource services in a unionized work environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to develop positive working relationships with customers and coworkers.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to travel within North America up to 30% of the time
  • The following are considered assets for this position:
    • Experience working in a large multi-site location.
    • Experience working in both Canadian and US jurisdictions.
    • CHRP or progression towards CHRP designation.
    • Working successfully in a dispersed team environment / remote reporting structure.
