Who We Are

Headquartered in Copenhagen, Denmark, COWI is a consulting group providing services within engineering, economics and environmental science from 88 offices in 25 countries. COWI North America is headquartered in North Vancouver, BC and specializes in Bridge, Tunnel and Marine engineering. The division employs over 330 people spread out over 11 offices in Canada and the US.


You will be a key part of a diverse, talented and tight-knit People team delivering HR services at both an operational and strategic level. Reporting to the head of People in North America, located in North Vancouver BC, and with strong access to the senior leadership team, this is a true end-to-end generalist opportunity with a focus on talent acquisition, project implementation and partnering with the business in decision-making. 

You will be working with world leaders in the structural engineering field across 7 offices spread out across USA (with biggest offices in Seattle WA, Oakland CA, New York NY and Florham Park NJ) providing leadership and HR guidance to stakeholders within various functions. You will be a partner and a coach for line and senior managers to strengthen their overall leadership performance and will act as a sounding board and trusted advisor to both managers and employees. You will provide recruitment expertise and guidance to leaders, managing full-cycle recruitment for open roles, relocating and mobilizing outstanding staff, as well as, be actively engaged in projects and process improvement. 

What Impact Will You Have? 

You will have the opportunity to influence at all levels, facilitating alignment of the execution of HR policies and delivering value to your internal clients by initiating or implementing local and global people solutions. You will partner with line management on organizational changes, with emphasis on culture, behavior and strategic staff planning (recruitment, succession planning, talent development) in order to ensure engagement of people on all initiatives. You will create and cultivate relationships by partnering with the People and Communications Group, Managers, key stakeholders, and candidates in Canada, USA and Internationally. You will drive results and be comfortable operating in an often ambiguous and fast paced environment with multiple things in motion at the same time.

You Would be a Great Fit if You:

  • Have a degree in Human Resource Management (Business Degree preferred) combined with a professional HR designation (Emphasis on California or ability to obtain a plus)
  • Have a minimum of 7 years of previous experience in a generalist Human Resources role in a complex organization with multiple offices, spanning across multiple geographic locations, with at least 2 years of full-cycle recruitment experience under your belt
  • Proficient in US labor, federal and state laws and have a working knowledge of immigration provisions
  • Thrive in a challenging, fast-changing and fast-paced environment
  • Have a proven track record of influencing decisions and building relationships
  • Are goal oriented, responsible and strive to deliver results
  • Easily adjust to changing priorities, successfully navigate ambiguity and able to work with a variety of personalities both locally and remotely
  • Have a strong sense of ownership and have a proactive and resourceful approach to challenges
  • Have an energetic and positive approach to work. You like to have fun and roll with the punches!
  • Are passionate about the customer experience—it’s always top of mind for you
  • Have strong verbal/written communication skills with ability to work with a variety of personalities both locally and remotely and proficiency in MS Office applications and ATS (SuccessFactors is an asset)
  • Open to travel once in a while
  • Have previous experience in A/E/C firm – this would be a great asset
