This position is responsible for the administration of the day-to-day operations of the human resources department, primarily focused in the areas of payroll, benefits, HRIS and compliance.  This role is a key member of a two-person HR team; while the responsibilities below reflect many of the core regular duties, the successful candidate should be adaptable to work on other HR projects and issues as needed.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Primary responsibility for preparing and processing biweekly payroll (currently using SyncHR), with proper auditing by HR Director.
  • Ensures that payroll system records are accurately recorded and cross-checked. Processes and properly tracks personnel data changes affecting payroll.  Conducts year-end W2 audit.
  • Primary expert on payroll and timekeeping system (currently SyncHR); tracking employee timekeeping; managing data setup in timekeeping system; resolving employee and manager issues as needed.  Looked to as subject matter expert on system functionality; reports suggestions/issues to HR Director as needed
  • Primary responsibility to tracking all HR employee personnel data (currently in SyncHR), including processing employee transfers/promotions, reviewing employee data changes, ensuring all HR data reviewed and completed by employees or managers as appropriate
  • Primary responsibility for all new hire tracking and processing, including but not limited to preparing offers, preparing new hire paperwork packets, tracking receipt of all necessary paperwork, coordinating process w/ managers, enrolling employees in payroll and benefits systems as appropriate, conduct and manage content for new hire orientations
  • Responsible for day-to-day benefits administration, including enrollments, terminations, changes, answering basic employee questions, reconciling monthly invoices, FMLA and STD claims, etc.  Escalate issues as appropriate to HR Director.
  • Assist HR Director with annual benefits renewal and open enrollment process and communications.
  • Coordinate benefit wellness efforts as appropriate (company internal wellness challenge, seminars, educational materials to staff, etc.).
  • Ensures that human resource files and records are maintained in accordance with legal requirements and company policies and procedures.
  • Completes monthly and year-end reporting as required.
  • Ensures that EEO data and reporting is up-to-date and in compliance with federal regulations.
  • Conducts background checks.
  • Research and analyze data for special projects and policy development as requested.
  • Assist HR Director as needed in other HR areas such as recruitment, training, performance management, etc.



  • 2-4 years’ experience in Human Resources field.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • Solid experience in payroll administration.
  • Shows savvy in navigating HR issues; excellent problem solving skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive HR issues with great discretion.
  • Solid understanding of employee benefit regulations and experience administering plans and interpreting benefits to resolve daily issues.
  • Comfort interacting with staff at all levels
  • Experience processing payroll for a mid-size company.
  • Great attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong Microsoft Word and Excel skills to assist with developing forms and/or tracking mechanisms for HR department as needed.
