Scrap Metal Services, L.L.C., a growing and dynamic scrap metal recycling and processing company with national and international operations, is seeking an HR Director to add to its corporate team in Burnham (south Chicago suburbs), Illinois.

This newly created position will help drive the HR function and grow the HR presence within the organization, as a direct report to the Executive Vice President of Human Resources/General Counsel.

This a director position, with significant experience demanded. Requires 10+ years of Human Resources management, with increasing responsibilities and solid strategic planning and employee and organizational development experience. Degree from a four-year college required, with a Master’s Degree or equivalent HR experience preferred.

Key duties will include:

  • Managing recruiting and retention, including talent pool identification and internal/external training opportunities.
  • Employee and organizational development - assessing, managing and promoting the professional development and ongoing learning opportunities, including individual and group development strategies to meet organizational goals.
  • Developing and implementing programs, policies and practices with focus on continuous improvement and consistency in application across multiple business units.
  • Administering compensation programs, including analysis of current structures and reward systems.
  • Designing, implementing and executing short-term and long-term plans and initiatives consistent with company culture, mission and values.
  • Partnering with current HR team (EVP, manager/generalist and front line supervisors) to identify and mitigate risks and handle employee relations matters.
  • Developing and maintaining HR technology platform to meet organization’s record keeping, onboarding and training needs.

Requirements

Must be able to work independently in fast-paced work environment and adapt to changing situations, including travel as necessary. Role requires critical thinking, creative problem solving and excellent communication skills (verbal and written), with proven ability to motivate and persuade at multiple levels in a professional organization.
