POSITION SUMMARY:

The Human Resources Director is responsible for developing and executing the human resources strategy, in support of the overall business plan & strategic direction of the organization. More specifically, the HR Director will focus on areas such as succession planning, talent management, change management, organizational and performance management, training and development, and compensation in a way that supports the work of the organization and is committed to its mission and values.

This position is a key member of the executive leadership team, focused on supporting the mission, vision, and overall strategies, direction and programs for the organization.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Establish and implement HR efforts that effectively communicate and support the organizations mission and strategic vision.
  • Serves as a business partner to the CEO and the leadership team, providing strategic leadership to attract, develop and retain the best available talent.
  • Direct the Human Resources team in developing and executing best practices to enable a high-performing team that contributes to the organization’s strategic growth.
  • Prepares and manages Human Resources Departmental budgets.
  • Provide overall leadership and guidance to the team, in areas of responsibility, including: performance management, employee relations, career development, salary administration, retention, training, leadership development, human resources information systems, and succession planning. He/she must;
    •    Ensure effective recruitment and on boarding programs/processes are implemented, which support the retention and success of staff throughout the organization.
    •   Oversee benefit programs including workers compensation; plan communication, enrollment and administration.
    •   Assesses the competitiveness of human resources programs and practices against the relevant markets and makes recommendations for improvements and changes.
  • Serve as the Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer for the organization and ensure an overall strategy is developed that support program innovation, leadership development, collaborations, financial development, branding/visibility.
  • Responsible for developing and administering the organization’s personnel procedures and policies.
  • Maintains an effective program of compliance with laws and regulations related to human resources, and manages relationships with compliance agencies and legal counsel.
  • Participate in national, state and local meetings that support overall organizational strategies including leadership development and government affairs.
    •    May assume leadership roles in committees or events as appropriate.
  • Oversees staff surveys and assessments programs to gain insight on staff feedback, engagement and satisfaction; ensure information gained is analyzed, communicated and as appropriate incorporated into strategies.
  • Works directly with assigned committee(s) to build relationships, develop policies, monitor their implementation and meet the related needs of the board.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

This position is directly responsible for leading two staff within the Human Resources Department.  

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use a computer for extended periods of time and be able to communicate using a computer and phone/smart device.  The employee frequently is required to sit and reach, and must be able to move around the work environment.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. 
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, human resources, or related field.
  • SHRM-SCP or SPHR certification preferred or earned within one year of start date.
  • Five years broad-based progressively responsible human resources experience.
  • Senior leadership experience is preferred.
  • Experience developing and implementing successful recruitment and retention programs.
  • Experience working with, and among employees and volunteers with diverse backgrounds and capabilities. 
  • Experience with diversity and inclusion training and education.
  • Advanced working knowledge of computer programs, including MS Office Suite.
