Known as the “Heart of Tennessee,” the City of Murfreesboro covers 61.09 square miles and is home to 130,131. It is the county seat of Rutherford County, which has a population of 280,000 and is part of the 13-county “Middle Tennessee” region with nearly 2 million residents. Murfreesboro operates under the council-manager form of government. The City Council is composed of seven members. Elected officials are part-time and appoint a full-time, professional City Manager who acts as the chief executive and oversees all staff and operations of the City. All City Department Directors report directly to the City Manager.

The City of Murfreesboro seeks a confident team builder with strong technical knowledge of human resources process and practices to be its next Human Resources Director. The Human Resources Department (HR) is charged with recruiting, benefits administration, employee relations, training, and retaining a diverse and effective workforce. Divisions within the department include Recruitment, Employee Relations, Training, Payroll, and Benefits Administration. The department has a total operating and salary budget of $1,074,107 and ten employees. Under the direction of the City Manager, the Human Resources Director provides advice and counsel and interprets policy for the leadership team concerning employee relations matters including discipline and discharge, promotion and transfer, ADA accommodation, FMLA compliance, pension administration, and benefits administration. This is a growth opportunity for a seasoned human resources professional, with an emphasis on developing organizational culture and improving communication across departments.

The selected candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, public administration, or a closely related field and must have ten (10) years of progressive executive level human resources management experience. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position will be considered. Municipal government experience is preferred. The salary range for this position is $87,328.32 to $104,793.78, depending on qualifications and experience.
