Job Summary

Provides support for various human resources initiatives and core Human Resources processes.  Supports organizational strategies and initiatives and assists with implementation, provides data and analysis, and makes recommendations. In collaboration with the Director, HR or Manager, HR, provides knowledgeable support, advice and counsel to assigned customer group.  Collaborates and builds relationships across functional areas and stakeholders.  Works to support company culture.  Monitors employee morale and identifies ways to mitigate and resolve workforce issues. Works to ensure Colonial maintains a union-free environment.  Travel for field based HR Generalist may be 30% or more based on the needs of the district.


Conducts daily work in compliance with Colonial’s safety policies and procedures. Demonstrates Colonial’s core values of Safety, Personal Integrity, Respect, Innovation and Teamwork in completing work assignments.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Employee Relations  30%
• Assists the Director, HR or Manager, HR with employee relations issues, including disciplining employees, conducting investigation and resolution of employee conflicts and grievances. 
• Provides consistent interpretation, application and administration of company policies procedures and practices.
• Supports managers and supervisors in developing, coaching, and training.
• Provides support for employee separations and may represent the company at mediations or court hearings.
• Facilitate and recommend reward and recognition opportunities.
• Assist employees with resolving difficulties they may have as a Colonial employee.


Strategic Partner  30%
• Serves as a business partner to assigned units within the organization to determine bottlenecks, stress points, and other barriers to success and facilitate resolution.
• Proactively communicates matters to the Manager, Human Resources that may have an impact of the HR department and the team members’ areas of responsibility in support of the workforce 
• Supports the Manager, Human Resources with communicating policies and procedures and the performance management and employee appraisal process for assigned areas, coaches managers/team leaders and employees and recommends corrective action steps as appropriate. 
• Provide training to employees, team leaders, and managers on Human Resources related topics.


Recruitment/Talent  30%
• Works directly with hiring managers throughout recruiting and hiring process to ensure high quality candidates and compliance with policies and procedures.
• Manage the scheduling and logistics of all interviews between candidates and hiring include behavioral-based interviewing methodologies. Assist managers in the development of job descriptions and recruiting requisitions on an as-needed basis. Identify and attend local and national diversity recruiting events.
• Develop, facilitate and extend job offers as directed

Compliance & Reporting 10%
• Meets HR reporting requirements by ensuring compliance with regulating agencies (e.g. AAP, Vets 100, EEOC) 
• Tracks and presents key measurement reports and data, as requested.
• Assist employees and company in efforts to maintain compliance with industry regulations.


Minimum Required
Bachelor’s degree in business, human resource management, or equivalent field 
2 years of related Human Resources experience.
Knowledgeable in key employment life cycle components of human resources (selecting, recruiting, training, rewarding, motivating, managing, redeploying, releasing) 

PHR or SPHR certification desired

Physical Requirements


Work is frequently performed in a typical office environment.  Visual acuity to read and prepare reports and documentation.  Digital dexterity for operation of PC Keyboard and mouse.  Ability to communicate in order to understand instructions, convey information and receive information.
