Human Resources Generalist
The American Gastroenterological Association (AGA)  seeks a candidate who will work with both the human resources and finance departments, supporting an assortment of human resources activities, payroll and benefits related financial activities.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
 
Human Resources (typically 75-80% of time)
 
  1. Handles full recruitment process for exempt and non-exempt positions
    • Position posting
    • Resume screening
    • Screening interviews
    • Input to selection process
    • Offer letters
    • Background checks
  2. On-boards all non-exempt and most exempt level employees
    • Conducts new hire orientation
    • Schedules other orientation meetings when requested
    • Benefits enrollment
    • I-9 processing
    • Prepares and maintains new employee files
    • Conducts 30-60-90 day check-ins for new hires
  3. Administers timesheet software
    • Maintain user accounts and rates in the system
    • Troubleshoots system problems
    • Trains new employees to use the system
  4. Acts as first point-of-contact for employees on payroll, leave and benefits questions.
  5. Responsible for day-to-day benefit administration including employee inquires, new enrollments, and termination of coverage for all benefits plans.
  6. Reconciles monthly benefits invoices/premium statements from vendors.
  7. Maintains employee records, processes changes and maintains HRIS information.
  8. Monitors HR policies to ensure legal compliance.
  9. Handles select employee relations issues, including performance improvement plans, discipline and terminations.
  10. Manages termination processing, including exit interviews and off-boarding
  11. Maintains and develops content for employee portal and company intranet, especially as it pertains to employee benefits.
  12. Serves as backup for front desk coverage

 

Finance and Accounting (typically 20-25% of time)
  1. Processes semi-monthly payroll from start to finish
  2. Serve as a primary point-of-contact with the payroll company
  3. Processing retirement contributions
  4. Manages annual open season using payroll system
  5. Ensures staff are enrolled for appropriate benefits
  6. Monitor staff timesheet submission
  7. Prepares HR/payroll related work papers for financial audit, Form 990, retirement audit, and worker’s compensation insurance audit.
  8. Maintains a current knowledge of rules and requirements concerning payroll and benefits
  9. Distributes invoices for corporate credit card charges.
  10. Assists the finance team with payables, cash receipts and bookkeeping during busy times of the year and as a backup.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned.
 
 

Requirements

Qualifications:
  1. 1 – 3 years human resources experience with strong recruiting and benefits focus.
  2. Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a business management related field required.Relevant internship experience desired.
  3. Payroll processing experience strongly preferred.
  4. Master’s degree in HR a plus.
  5. SHRM-CP or PHR preferred.
  6. Good oral and written communications.
  7. Self-starter, with excellent attention to detail.
  8. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive issues

  10. Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and familiarity with a Human Resources Information System.
