Human Resources Generalist

Job Overview

As Human Resources Generalist, you will be responsible for supporting 75+ co-workers for a flexible packaging manufacturing facility. Your main responsibilities as Human Resources Generalist will involve change management, managing and administering employee relations, human resources programs, policies and procedures.

Job Dimensions

  • Part of Human Resources team centralized out of Chicago IL

Principal Accountabilities

  • Support continued integration efforts related to Human Resources from HRIS, Benefits and Compensation, Talent Acquisition, Performance, and Training and Development.
  • Lead change management efforts related to integration
  • Research, coach, and counsel managers, supervisors, and co-workers on employee relation matters
  • Provide management/supervisor guidance on performance improvement and disciplinary actions
  • Process bi-weekly hourly employee payroll and all aspects pertaining to payroll, garnishments, and schedule changes.
  • Administer leave management, STD, LTD, FMLA, and Workers Compensation
  • Support and administer benefits administration
  • Assist employees with questions, concerns, and inquiries related to payroll, benefits, policies and programs
  • Responsible for recruitment of all non-exempt positions
  • Process employee verifications
  • Organize and lead new hire orientations and oversight of all on boarding activities
  • Process all HRIS maintenance (hires, terms, salary changes) and maintain employee personal files
  • Assist with coordination and planning and oversight of local community programs
  • Keep all employee bulletin boards current and up to date
  • Administer Education Assistance Program (tuition reimbursement)
  • Lead and/or take part in projects related to any Human Resource process improvements
  • Assist in other areas as needed or directed by HR Manager

Major Challenges & complexities

  • Help direct and coordinate the Plant’s Human Resource function to assure compliance with state and/or federal regulations and to ensure its effectiveness.
  • Responsible for administering the employee complaint procedure by investigating complaints, interviewing witnesses, viewing conditions, discussing with supervisors and so forth to obtain facts. Provide timely feedback of findings to employee and/or take necessary corrective action to resolve the complaint or problem. Follow up to assure continuing successful conclusion.

Formal Qualifications and Experience

 

Knowledge and Experience

  • 3+ years of Human Resources experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience with payroll and with time and labor systems preferred

Education and Certifications

  • BS in Human Resources or related field
  • PHR Certificate preferred
  • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP preferred

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Behaviors

 

Job Specific skills and abilities

  • Excellent computer skills including HRIS experience and Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of local and federal laws (EEO, FMLA, ADA, WC, ect)
  • Must be able to flex hours in order to support multi-shift operation
  • Organizational skills with demonstrated ability to prioritize and multi-task
  • Excellent interpersonal and coaching skills
  • Must be able to maintain high level of confidentially and discretion
