Schuler Mission

We are a private, non-profit foundation in the northern suburbs of Chicago. Schuler currently serves over 900 high school and college Scholars in partnership with 12 high schools located throughout the northern suburbs and the city of Chicago.



  • The Schuler Scholar Program equips high-achieving underrepresented students to gain access to and succeed at highly selective colleges and beyond.

  • We hold our Scholars to a very high standard and Scholars are given ample individual support for the hard work throughout their high school years to help them succeed.

    • a rigorous academic foundation

    • leadership skills

    • improved cultural fluency

    • intensive and individualized support in selecting, applying, and gaining entrance to high caliber colleges

    • support in college through the transition of freshman year

  • We culminate the program with successful integration into the working world, with access to internships, job fairs, and corporate partner network opportunities and a lifelong network of fellow Scholars and mentors.

We are seeking an HR professional interested in doing it all- from generalist day to day tasks, to implementation of policies to strategizing growth.  The ideal HR professional should be culture focused, team-oriented, analytic and able to provide consistent HR leadership and support for the Schuler Scholar Program.  This role requires someone capable of carrying out responsibilities specific to: Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS), employee relations, on-boarding and off-boarding, training and development, benefits, compensation, and organizational development. This position reports directly to the Executive Director, works closely with the Director of Recruiting and is a key member of the Schuler Leadership Team.  The successful candidate will directly impact our culture and employee experience. 


–   Responsible for all HR duties from payroll to benefits to compliance

   Act as the face of HR while communicating and fostering organizational values

–   Maintain HRIS and other platforms for all required HR and payroll processes and transactions, including providing HR data and analysis

–   Administer and innovate human resources programs and policies to support our mission and culture, and to positively engage the workforce

–   Manage all employee relations, including performance and grievance issues, across the organization

–   Develop and implement HR related policies, including staffing, staff training programs, employment policies, compliance, and communication channels to facilitate an efficient and conflict-free workplace

–   Lead employee onboarding, off-boarding, training and development

–   Analyze, recommend, and administer compensation and benefit plans,

–   Prepare human resources operating budgets

–   Create, coordinate and administer staff performance and development systems

   Develop and implement HR strategy in line with projected growth

–   Manage organization-wide employee HR communications

–   Advise leadership on all human resources issues with broad and current subject matter knowledge that includes expertise in federal and state employment laws


 Candidate Skills

–   Experience in the administration of benefits and compensation programs and other Human Resources programs.

–   Strong emotional intelligence and experience with multi-cultural competency a must

–   Collaborative and team oriented

–   Aptitude in problem-solving and conflict management

–   Excellent communication skills to handle complex and difficult situations with thought and confidence

   Collect and analyze HR data for regular updates to leadership

–   Skilled at soliciting input from people at all levels

–   Ability to deliver appropriate information to the right people in a straightforward, sensible way

   Demonstrated ability to provide vision and leadership

   Knowledge and/or experience in building an HR practice and department

–   Previously drove HR strategy and built strong relationships across an organization

–   Well-organized, self-starter, multi-tasker


Bachelor’s degree required. Certification from the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) a plus.


Qualified applicants will have 3 to 5 years of work experience in the human resource field.
