Purpose of the position

The HR Manager for International Staff is responsible for all HR operations for international staff, which is defined as employees and consultants who are not from eHA’s program office countries in Africa.  In addition, the successful candidate will represent eHealth Africa at forums in the U.S. upon request.  

What you’ll do

Employee Relations

  • Ensure all international staff contracts and benefits are current and accurate
  • Ensure proper documentation of all benefits and other information in BambooHR
  • Provide training and support to  international staff on financial reimbursement tracking system
  • Manage payroll for international staff in conjunction with designated finance staff
  • Support performance management processes.
  • Manage all aspects of hiring for open positions upon request, including developing job descriptions, recruiting, managing interview and selection processes, negotiations, and onboarding.
  • Manage all aspects of offboarding employees.
  • Liaise with other HR staff on talent matters including change management, staff development, team building and organizational design and effectiveness


  • Liaise with the Director of Administration to understand hiring needs
  • Develop and execute recruitment strategy for international staff as needed
  • Represent eHA at hiring forums and conferences in the US
  • Communicate effectively to market eHA to potential international staff
  • Manage and conduct interview processes in collaboration with relevant eHA country office staff and consistent with relevant HR policies.


  • Onboard international staff in alignment with eHA global HR strategy
  • Facilitate insurances (health coverage and travel) so they are in place prior to international staff relocation
  • Work with eHA travel coordinators to arrange travel and accommodation for relocation in close collaboration with the relevant country staff
  • Facilitate documentation and filing procedures with international staff and respective eHA country offices and HR teams
  • Understand and communicate eHA global international staff policies 

HR Coordination and Policies

  • Coordinate with relevant HR teams and the Director of Administration regularly, including participating in global HR meetings and processes upon request.
  • Lead the development of HR policies and procedures specific to international staff.  Proactively raise issues and suggest improvements as needed.  Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Utilize the organizational results framework to track progress in key performance indicator areas
  • Make budget recommendations for international HR
  • Support renewal process and make recommendations for organizational business insurances and employee benefits
  • Prepares international HR salary and benefits budget, manages expenditures, and reports on variances to budget

Alumni Network

  • With direction from the Director of Administration and global HR teams, lead the development and execution of an alumni network strategy to strengthen relationships with former international staff members 
  • Create and manage a database of eHA international staff alumni 
  • Report on learnings from the alumni network which could support eHA internal processes



Who you are

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree from college or university in Human Resources or related field. Master’s degree is highly desirable.
  • 7-10 years of HR experience covering: employment law and compliance; employee relations; relocation; compensation; talent acquisition and development; performance management; HRIS; compensation and benefits; and workforce and succession planning. 
  • Experience working with international NGOs and multiple worksite teams is required.  
  • In-depth knowledge of US labor laws is required; experience working with international labor laws is a strongly preferred.
  • Experience using online administrative and collaboration software is required (e.g. any of: SAGE X3 ERP, Google docs, BambooHR, Docusign, SwipeClock, and Redbooth).
  • Proven supervisory and mentoring ability.

  • Outstanding written communication.
  • Outstanding interpersonal communication skills, including a proven ability to maintain constructive relationships with colleagues and partners, both in-person and virtually.
  • Experience supporting diversity is strongly preferred.
