ImmDef seeks a Human Resources Manager to oversee all activities related to the organization’s human resources needs, including, but not limited to, employee relations, recruiting and onboarding, payroll and benefits administration, maintenance of employee records, and performance management. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years’ experience in human resource management and a basic understanding of employment law principles, as well as an interest in and preferably experience working in HR in a mission-­‐driven organization. Non-profit experience and an understanding of the needs of a legal organization is a plus, as is the desire to spearhead the creation of a revamped human resources presence from the ground up. Strong diplomacy skills are essential.


Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

I. Manage ImmDef’s HR systems, employee relations and performance management processes

• Interpret and apply employee handbook, policies, procedures, practices, and regulations consistently and assures compliance with applicable federal, state and local labor laws, rules and regulations

• Provide coaching, guidance, and conflict management resolution best practices to staff and managers while encouraging innovative solutions to personnel matters

• Conduct investigations and research employee complaints in compliance with established procedures

•  Serve as liaison with outside legal counsel on HR related legal issues


II. Oversee benefits administration for the organization’s full-­‐ and part-­‐time employees

•  Serve as primary point-­‐of-­‐contact for inquiries related (but not limited) to health insurance, employee leaves of absence and benefits administration

• Ensure ImmDef’s compliance with all reporting, administrative and regulatory requirements related to each benefit program

• Analyze the organization’s existing compensation structure and benefits for consistency and competitiveness; make recommendations to leadership on potential improvements


III. Manage the organization’s recruiting process

•  Develop job descriptions and coordinate interviews

•  Manage employee onboarding

•  Develop and coordinate new employee orientation program

•  Develop and oversee volunteer oversight policies and procedures


IV. Manage ImmDef’s employee relations and performance management processes

• Provide input on employee retention programs, employee surveys and other projects related to staff morale

• Develop and oversee programs related to staff appreciation and organizational culture including monthly staff birthday events and all-­‐ staff meetings

• Design and coordinate, in collaboration with management staff, effective and helpful employee performance management system

• Work with front line managers to develop professional development plans and programs that are aligned with ImmDef’s goals



$50,000-­‐$60,000 + generous benefits package, including health, dental, sick and vacation time, 11 paid holidays/year, and our office is closed between Dec. 25 and Jan 2.  We encourage a strong work/life balance for all employees, and offer flexible schedules, work arrangements and support.

• B.A. or M.A. in Human Resources, Business, Public Administration, or other related fields (or commensurate practical experience)

•  A minimum of five years of experience in Human Resources field;

• Experience handling issues related to employee benefits and compensation, organizational planning, employee relations and recruiting;

•  Outstanding relationship building and professional communication skills;

•  Analytical thinker who approaches challenges with an optimistic, can-­‐do attitude

• Proven track record of efficient time and project management, and the ability to work independently in certain situations with minimal direct supervision

•  Appetite for working in a fast-­‐paced, constantly-­‐evolving work environment
