Human Resources Manager (Manager, Compensation and Classification)

The Compensation and Classification Manager will provide leadership and guidance for administering various aspects of the University's staff, academic and bargaining unit compensation and classification programs, policies and procedures. Reporting to the Sr. Director of Compensation and Benefits, this position will plan, direct, and manage a staff of compensation and classification professionals based on the strategic direction established by the University's Compensation and Benefits Center of Expertise. The successful candidate will establish standards and protocols to deliver extraordinary compensation and classification services to clients; develop innovative compensation and classification strategies to attract and retain high-quality employees based on current and future University needs; provide guidance to managers and HR professionals on compensation and classification policies, procedures, and best practices; investigate, analyze, and resolve compensation and classification-related issues; ensure compensation and classification programs are in compliance with applicable State and Federal laws; as well as supervise, develop, and mentor compensation and classification staff. The position will also work collaboratively with other shared services and professional services groups to implement compensation and classification best practices, and provide two-way communications opportunities with HR Strategic Partners and HR Consultants to discuss needs and solicit feedback for continuous improvement of services. The Compensation and Classification Manager requires extensive knowledge of compensation and classification programs and processes and a high level of expertise regarding effective HR processes, practices, and systems in compensation and classification service delivery; the ability to develop a high degree of trust and credibility with relevant stakeholders, including HR Strategic Partners and HR consultants, faculty, managers, and staff. The successful candidate will also possess a high level of diplomacy to persuade and influence a wide variety of people at various levels to achieve positive results; demonstrated competence to exercise sound judgment when making decisions; the ability to develop and mentor staff; the ability to develop and implement effective solutions to highly complex issues that may have University-wide impact; and a determination to build best practices that promote a positive customer experience. Demonstrated competencies in the following areas also will be required: superior oral and written communication skills; advanced knowledge of compensation and classification strategies; a collaborative and flexible decision-making style; a demonstrated commitment to fostering diversity; and the vision to assess and proactively lead organizational change based on changing needs. This job will be filled as a level 3, or level 4, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus eight years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 3. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. A Master's degree is preferred, as well as prior compensation and classification leadership experience
