Job Details

The Town of Matthews is seeking a motivated, experienced Human Resources Manager. The HR Manager will be responsible for planning and administering various human resources programs, including serving as a lead on internal employee recognition and planning committees, creating and implementing employee trainings, writing/revising job classifications, and assisting with coordination of the hiring process. This position will also complete research, analyze data, prepare reports, and propose new or revised policies and procedures, as necessary.
 
The HR Manager will be equipped to work with and assist all internal and external audiences, from employees to department heads and managers, Board members, related agencies and vendors, as well as members of the public.  This work will range from answering basic policy questions to conducting personnel investigations; providing advice and counsel related to the management of performance issues to making presentations to the Board of Commissioners. The ability to work professionally and competently, solve problems, and provide excellent customer service to each stakeholder will be vital to the HR Manager's success in the position. The HR Manager is a ? full-time? exempt position that will include some supervisory responsibilities and will report to the Assistant Town Manager/HR Director.
 
The selected candidate for this position will be a self-starter with an excellent work ethic, written and verbal communication skills, and ability to be flexible. A positive, can-do attitude, professional demeanor, and ability to build and maintain positive relationships and exceed expectations with a diverse group of people is a must. The selected candidate must also be able to maintain strict confidentiality and possess knowledge and skill related to human resource-related concepts, laws, and best practices. Qualified applicants will possess at least sixty semester hours of college-level course work in human resources, public administration or a related field and four years of human resource administration experience, including one year of supervisory experience and one year as a trainer; or any combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. A bachelor's degree in a related field and/or PHR or SHRM-CP certification is preferred.
 
Expected hiring rate is $50,415-$68,000/annually, DOQ – plus excellent benefits.

Requirements

Required Education and Experience
Sixty semester hours of college-level course work in human resources, public administration or a related field and four years of human resource administration experience, including one year of supervisory experience and one year as a trainer; or any combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
 
Preferred Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree
PHR or SHRM-CP certification
 
Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  1. Considerable knowledge of principles and practices of human resource management, dynamics of employee development and professional growth, and training program design and presentation.
  2. Working knowledge of state and federal labor laws and regulations and report preparation.
  3. Ability to plan, organize and present training activities to diverse employee groups, establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the public, follow written and verbal instructions, and communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
