ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
We are looking for someone to:
  • provide counseling and strategic advice to City's Human Resources Department on all aspects of public sector labor and employment law;
  • participate in the development of employee and labor relations policies, and programs;
  • develop and conduct training programs on employee relations best practices, investigation techniques, and other employment-labor related topics as warranted;
  • provide counseling and strategic advice to assigned City Departments.
  • provide oversight and monitoring of cases and issues assigned to outside counsel;
  • respond to inquiries from City Management, Council and the general public;
  • draft resolutions and ordinances for adoption by the City Council;
  • provide advice on other legal issues as needed.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:
 Education & Experience Requirements:
  • Graduation from an ABA accredited law school with a Juris Doctor degree.
  • Must be currently licensed and in good standing to practice law in the State of Washington.
  • Minimum 5 years of labor and employment experience, preferably in the public sector.
  • Experience involving criminal or misdemeanor litigation or civil litigation experience in areas related to the operation of a municipal government.

  • knowledgeable in municipal law;
  • a highly skilled labor and employment attorney with both litigation and advice skills;
  • adept at addressing the legal challenges facing rapidly-growing cities;
  •  a gifted mentor who is savvy in solving organizational challenges;
  • analytical, logical and innovative, as well as, action and results oriented;  
  • a superb communicator with good interpersonal skills;
