JOB DESCRIPTION

fffGiven the financial nature of this position, this position has been defined as a position requiring a credit check. Prior to being hired, promoted, or transferred into the position, the candidate must successfully pass a credit background check.

SUMMARY:

Develops operational strategy and applies multi-functional solutions to business and work- related issues. Works closely with operations and management in planning and implementing company policies, programs, and practices, that create a more flexible, diverse, and competitive work force.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manages the activities of labor relations and collaborates with HR Business Partners and business areas to provide effective labor relation support

Prepares for, conducts, and/or advises on contract negotiations

Drafts or assists in drafting labor agreements and advises on the administration of labor agreements

Advises on the management of grievances and serves as the main company spokesperson at final grievance hearings

Prepares cases for arbitration, serves as company advocate at arbitration hearings, and prepares post-hearing briefs

Monitors state, federal, and local compliance issues and consults with operations and/or senior management regarding the impact on company programs; advises on the application of the various federal and state legislation related to labor relations

Represents the organization during informal dealings with the National Labor Relations Board and the Wage-Hour Division of the Department of Labor

Participates in national industry labor organizations (AGA, EEI) to stay current on trends within the industry and in labor law

Provides technical labor relations expertise for the purpose of strategic planning, cost reductions, and employee satisfaction

Serves as a consultant to management on union avoidance

Builds and maintains good working relationships with local union leadership

COMPETENCIES:

Possesses and applies a broad knowledge of labor relations principles, practices, and procedures to the completion of difficult assignments

Ability to create sound business relationships and apply effective behavioral influence to achieve success in problem-solving

Ability to facilitate issue resolution between management and employees

Ability to devise, propose, and implement solutions to issues, which reflect the company's business direction

Broad knowledge of company policies and external laws and regulations relating to employment and labor relations issues, programs, and practices

Ability to anticipate and adapt to changing client needs

QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree with seven to nine years of experience in management or senior-level labor relations role, and experience as a chief company spokesperson during negotiations or equivalent combination of education and/or experience related to the discipline

Master's degree is preferred

Five to ten years of experience in one or more HR disciplines is preferred

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Hires, trains, evaluates, rewards, and terminates employees. Designs, organizes, prioritizes, schedules, and leads work assignments. Provides training in areas of proficiency to other HR staff through on-the-job training or formal in-house presentations

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, financial reports, and legal documents

Ability to speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations

Ability to effectively present information to diverse audiences

COMPUTER SKILLS:

Advanced knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software

ANALYSIS AND PROBLEM-SOLVING ABILITY:

Ability to define problems, collect data, analyze alternatives, and reason. Ability to use originality, creativity, and ingenuity to solve problems

DECISION MAKING:

Independently analyzes issues, makes judgments, and reaches decisions. Receives general direction from Director. Consults with line management, HR Business Partners and employees to develop solutions that meet the client's needs.

SCOPE AND IMPACT:

Judgment and decisions may have major impacts on the company's business direction, labor management relationships, and relations with employees. Decisions and actions could have a long-term effect and may be difficult to change or reverse.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Ability to sit up to 2/3 of the time and to stand, walk, and stoop up to 1/3 of the time. Good vision and ability to adjust focus is required. Manual dexterity is required. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds

$98,336 - $132,754 - $167,172
