LPS is a network of three urban charter high schools dedicated to providing exemplary education in underserved communities in Richmond, Oakland, and Hayward, CA. Director of Talent Opportunity


LPS is seeking a mission-focused leader as a Director of Talent. This is an incredible opportunity for an experienced leader to work with a high-performing team of innovative and collaborative educators who are deeply committed to supporting all students in becoming college and career ready community leaders.


88% of LPS students are from low-income families, 87% will be first-generation college graduates, 87% are Latino or African American, and 47% will be first-generation high school graduates. Our students far outpace students in similar schools and in the state as a whole. 99% of our graduates are accepted to college. 92% have completed A-G requirements for University of California admission compared with 42% of similar students in the state as a whole. 88% persist in college for a second year in contrast to 70% of similar students nationwide. We are seeking a Director of Talent who will recruit, hire, induct, support, and sustain an amazing staff that will not only continue, but will also significantly improve the educational opportunities we provide our students.  


Responsibilities


  • Ensure that LPS schools and the Home Office are staffed with high-quality teachers, support staff and school leaders through outstanding recruitment, selection, and retention supports.

  • Work, in partnership with the Chief Talent Officer, Talent-HR Manager, and core management team to develop and implement an LPS talent strategy.

  • Work, in partnership with the Chief Talent Officer and Talent HR Manager, to formulate, implement, communicate, and administer HR policies, procedures, and programs that support LPS’s strategic goals and objectives.

  • In collaboration with the Talent-HR Manager, design and implement effective recruitment and retention strategies enabling LPS to become an employer of choice.

  • Ensure regulatory compliance and oversight of HR administrative functions including state, federal, and district reporting as well as compliance with wage and hour, workers compensation, unemployment, ADA, and all other applicable laws and regulations.

  • Oversee HR data systems and provide comprehensive HR data to meet LPS data requests and regulatory compliance.

  • Ensure credential compliance and support teachers in obtaining appropriate California Teaching Credentials.

  • Implement a competitive compensation and benefits program, coordinating with payroll and benefits staff in its implementation.

  • In collaboration with the Chief Academic Officer, implement a new effective performance management system.

  • Be a champion of employees by working to build a culture based on open communication and trust and working to ensure that each individual is fully engaged, feels committed to LPS, and is motivated and capable of contributing fully.

  • Serve as an organizational “ombudsperson,” working objectively and systematically to resolve individual and organizational problems.


Qualifications


  • A demonstrated commitment to the LPS mission

  • Strong cultural competence and experience working in a culturally diverse, urban environment

  • Understanding of the skills and dispositions needed by successful urban educators

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree with a graduate degree in a relevant field preferred

  • Three or more years of HR generalist experience, including “hands-on” management of the HR function in a small to mid-sized organization, preferably in a district or charter school system

  • A comprehensive understanding of public education human resource practices and principles including credentialing, school staffing, benefits, compensation, employee relations, performance management, training and development, and organizational development

  • Exceptional organizational, project management, and communication (both verbal and written) skills and the ability to balance multiple priorities and execute effectively

  • Strong interpersonal skills including approachability, integrity, listening, and empathy along with the ability to develop positive partnerships and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
