POSITION PURPOSE

The Manager, Advice and Counsel provides guidance and counseling to managers and associates on a wide range of associate relations topics through a centralized services delivery model. The Manager owns all associate relations cases through resolution. Approximately 10% of work time involves providing telephone-based support for incoming calls during high call volume periods as a backup support to the Associate Advice and Counsel Advisor. The Manager provides coaching and counseling on complex issues including, but not limited to, management practices, allegations of sexual harassment, allegations of discrimination, and conflict resolution. The Manager provides guidance on issues of employment law including Family Medical Leave Act, American with Disabilities Act, Wage and Hour Laws, and state-specific laws. The Manager will be responsible for researching and investigating cases escalated by the Advisor and providing timely resolution to Associates and Managers. The Manager, Advice and Counsel works in the Atlanta Store Support Center and reports to the Senior Manager, Advice and Counsel.

MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • 20% Providing excellent customer service and expert counseling to Home Depot managers and associates 
  • 20% Managing cases from receipt through resolution, including any field investigations activities 
  • 30% Researching complex issues, minimizes legal risk and third party involvement by conducting thorough internal investigations to resolve and correct the issue, contacting the appropriate parties to communicate the resolution 
  • 10% Partnering with resources from other areas including field HR, Legal, Loss Prevention, Associate Relations to effectively resolve issues 
  • 10% Ensuring associate and manager calls are properly handled for investigation, resolution is consistent with company policy, and cases are closed in a timely manner 
  • 10% Handling inbound calls as required during high call volume periods, when necessary

NATURE AND SCOPE

  • Reports to Senior Manager Advice and Counsel
  • No direct reports
ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS
Environment: 
Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Travel: 
Typically requires overnight travel 5% to 20% of the time.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must be eighteen years of age or older.
Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.
Additional Minimum Qualifications:

Education Required:
The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a high school diplomas and/or GED.

Years of Relevant Work Experience: 3 years
Physical Requirements:
Frequent periods are spent standing or sitting in the same location with some opportunity to move about; occasionally there may be a need to stoop or lift light objects (typically less than 8 pounds).

Additional Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or related field 
  • 5 years in Associate Relations, Human Resources, HR Call Center, or Home Depot equivalent, with at least 50% or more focus on investigations and case management 
  • Experience within a centralized HR service delivery model 
  • Home Depot experience
