Job Details

The McKinsey Canada Manager of Human Resources oversees a full range of HR activities in support of more than 450 colleagues across 4 Canada locations (Toronto Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary). S/he works collaboratively with the North America HR community, and with the Canada administrative leadership team. S/he is focused both on delivering exceptional support to our colleagues and on managing HR related risk on behalf of the Firm.

Responsibilities include:

       Manage small Canada HR team, including recruiting, developing and evaluating team members

       Serve as a point of contact for all staff on Firm and office HR policies

       Oversee office implementation of benefit programs, working with staff, Firm Benefits, and insurance companies to resolve issues

       Oversee payroll working closely with Global Finance & Accounting on routine process, and with Firm Payroll on the smooth implementation of a new payroll system for Canada

       Liaise with regional HR and Firm on policy changes; implement changes in the office

       Manage HR related risks in collaboration with HR and Office Leaders, and with Firm Legal as necessary. Bring expertise and excellent judgment to issues related to:


    Background checks

    Performance remediation

    Terminations and role eliminations

    Leaves of absence

    External contractors

    Values violations

       Onboard and deliver orientation to all colleagues joining the Firm, collaborating with Recruiting and Professional Development: communicate effectively with new hires, handle all necessary paperwork, design and deliver orientation

       Drive personnel support for our administrative staff:

    Oversee recruiting

    Own the evaluation and compensation processes

    Provide counsel to administrative managers and Partners on personnel issues in their teams

    Serve as trusted counsel to administrative staff members


The role is based in Toronto. It reports to the North America Regional Director of Human Resources and Professional Development, Jeanne LaSala, and to the Canada Director of Professional Development, Carol-Anne Reid. Background and Training

       Bachelor’s degree in HR or related field

       5 – 7 years HR experience, with at least 1 – 2 years relevant managerial experience

       Knowledge of relevant local HR regulations and issues; familiarity with relevant HR systems
