Position Overview
The Payroll Manager is a management position responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate processing of biweekly payroll and taxes for 13,000+ geographically dispersed associates using ADP Enterprise and managing the relationships with payroll vendors.  The position reports to the Sr. Director, Compensation, Benefits, & Payroll and manages a team of 4 associates.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review and approve payroll to ensure accurate distribution of funds.
  • Oversee the accurate administration and remittance of tax deposits in tax jurisdictions.
  • Ensure compliance with company policy and statutory tax withholding, labor and payroll regulations.
  • Oversee SOC1 audits with vendors and internal audit.
  • Compile data from a wide variety of sources for the purpose of analyzing issues, ensuring compliance with mandated requirements, and/or monitoring programs.
  • Communicate with a variety of internal and external parties to ensure accurate processing of payroll.
  • Manage external vendor relationships to maximize their productivity and effectiveness.
  • Hire, train and develop qualified staff to work together in a collaborative environment.
  • Supervise, mentor and coach Payroll support staff on day to day activities, payroll related tasks, prioritizing and work planning.
  • Develop, implement and generate performance metrics and annual reviews for direct reports.  Provide coaching and development opportunities and address performance issues in a timely manner.
  • Remain current on new legislation and regulatory rulings impacting payroll.  Enforce adherence to requirements and advise management on required actions.
  • Maintain a wide variety of payroll information, files and records in written and electronic formats for the purpose of providing an up-to-date reference and audit trail for compliance.
  • Oversee workload of the team for the purpose of maximizing the efficiency of the work force and meeting operational requirements.
  • Provide expert consulting regarding payroll initiatives and tools to facilitate overall organizational performance.
  • Manage the reconciliation of accounts to ensure integrity of output and reconciliations.
  • Manage the year-end payroll related processes.
  • Partner with technology staff to troubleshoot system issues
  • Develop communications to associates and respond to regulatory requests.
  • Manage the accurate and timely distribution of Pay Cards and work with vendor to resolve issues.
  • Assist with payroll and technology related projects



  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Payroll, Accounting, Business or related field
  • At least 5 or more years of experience managing multi-state payroll
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting/payroll processing principles and HR wage-related procedures
  • Proficient knowledge of Federal and State wage and hour regulations and tax filing procedures
  • Ability to formulate and implement well thought out solutions to day-to-day issues
  • Strong technology skills and ability to partner with others to troubleshoot system issues
  • Excellent organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills
  • Strong attention to detail while producing accurate and high quality work
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite and intermediate to advanced level of Excel skills
  • Understanding of payroll regulations and complexities
  • Knowledge of payroll processes, workflow and industry best practices
