JOB SUMMARY:

This position manages and coordinates the payroll function. Performs all activities necessary to accurately and effectively process semi-monthly and bi-weekly payrolls.

 

 

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Using Workday, process calculations of wages, differentials, holidays, vacation, leaves overtime, and deductions (i.e. wage garnishments, tax levies, loans and benefit deductions) to ensure compliance with federal and state law for semi-monthly and bi-weekly payrolls, including exempt and non-exempt employees working 8/10/12 hour shifts.

  • Audit all payroll transactions including time entry, retroactive adjustments, benefit enrollments/deductions and special entries, i.e., stock transactions.

  • Interface with Corporate and/or third party vendors when necessary  

  • Lead and/or assist with internal and external audit-related requests (payroll, SOX, 401(k) audit, Pension Plan audit, etc.), payroll system testing and other ad-hoc projects, as needed.

  • Research inquiries from employees pertaining to their pay and provide timely response.

  • Respond to payroll tax inquiries.

  • Prepare year-end close along with review of W-2s.

  • Maintain on-line biweekly and semi-monthly payroll files in the Shared drive.

  • Maintain payroll related paper records.

  • Work closely with Workday Support to research/resolve payroll transaction/system issues.

  • Provide troubleshooting and support for payroll and timekeeping system users.

  • Maintain payroll bi-weekly/semi-monthly and bonus payroll checklists.

  • Maintain, reconcile and administer vacation bank (accrual) process and process all final payouts of vacation to terminated employees.

  • Research all void/manual checks before processing and maintain manual checks log.

  • Have a general understanding of accounting to be able to liaise with the Accounting Department to assist with payroll accounting issues, including journal entries for payroll related accruals, and reconciliation of payroll and benefit-related expenses as well as balance sheet related accounts.

  • Provide the Medical Department with payroll earning history for workers' compensation loss claims submission.  

  • Assist with compiling reports for government agencies.

  • Maintain confidentiality and security of records and information.

  • Create reports as required.

  • Other Human Resources duties as assigned.

Requirements

 JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate Degree or Payroll Certification preferred.

  • 5+ years’ experience managing a payroll cycle from start to finish, preferably in Workday.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
