Job Details

We are currently recruiting an HR Manager to be based at the Ravenswood Power Plant facility with 200+ employees in Long Island City, New York. This position will have dual reporting to the Facility Manager and the Human Resources Director for Operations & Maintenance Services. 
The successful candidate will manage the development and implementation of Human Resources processes to enhance the employees’ experience. Processes include: 
• Day-to-day union contract (CBA) administration 
• Dispute resolution/grievance processing 
• HR policies review, development, and process implementation 
• Employee communications 
• Performance management 
• Management development planning/competency development/succession planning 
• Recruitment, selection, on-boarding, and orientation 
• Wage and Salary administration 
• Rewards & Recognition, employee wellbeing 
• Compliance with employment laws and regulations

Requirements

• Ensures the effective implementation of labor relations and positive employee relations strategies through training and partnering with internal customers. 
• Works with management in responding to grievances in unionized facilities. 
• Project-manage and execute HR process improvement initiatives. 
• Takes ownership for HR processes at the facility level to enhance employee experience. 
• Provide advice, support, information and guidance to employees and managers on employee and labor relations issues, ensuring HR policies and management practices comply with regulatory requirements and mitigate legal exposure. 
• Manage the recruitment and selection process in conjunction with the Recruiter from approvals, sourcing, assessment of candidates, interviews, preparation of an offer, background/drug screening, relocation, to closing the deal. 
• Work closely with various managers in instituting core values and demonstrated behaviors tied to them. 
• Manage the Performance Management process which includes effective usage of the software, standardization, and compliance. 
• Manage the Salary Planning process, including market data research and analysis, and recommendations for merit increases and bonuses based on facility budgets or specific contract requirements. 
• Manage the Training & Development process for plant staff and provide coaching. Identify training and development opportunities to ensure that appropriate skills sets are maintained and that personnel are qualified as required. 
• Special HR projects as assigned.

• Ensures the effective implementation of labor relations and positive employee relations strategies through training and partnering with internal customers.

• Takes ownership for HR processes at the facility level to enhance employee experience and team appropriately with safety coordinator for human error prevention. Processes include: 
 Absenteeism management 
 Progressive discipline and discharge 
 Disability management 
 Workman’s compensation claims administration 
 Fitness for duty/return to work scheduling 
 FMLA administration 

• Provide advice, support, information and guidance to employees and managers on employee and labor relations issues, ensuring HR policies and management practices comply with regulatory requirements and mitigate legal exposure. 
• Manage the recruitment and selection process in conjunction with the Recruiter from approvals, sourcing, assessment of candidates, interviews, preparation of an offer, background/drug screening, relocation, to closing the deal. 
• Work closely with various managers in instituting core values/competencies and demonstrated behaviours tied to them. 
• Manage the Performance Management process which includes effective feedback, coaching, documentation, and usage of performance management tools.. 
• Manage the Training & Development process for plant staff and provide coaching. Identify training and development opportunities to ensure that appropriate skills sets are maintained and that personnel are qualified as required. 
• Special HR projects as assigned. 
• Works primarily in office environment but comfortable working in plant environment, including use of necessary PPE, observance of safety rules, etc.

• Minimum of 10 years of progressive labor relations and human resources generalist experience in an industrial plant environment that includes the development and implementation of labor and/or collective bargaining strategy, developing and facilitating the performance management/progressive discipline process in a union setting. 
• Knowledge of laws that impact human resources/labor relations such as NLRA, FMLA. 
• Flexible, self-directed, and motivated. 
• Excellent interpersonal, coaching, and trainings skills and able to interact with and influence employees at all levels. 
• Ability to handle multiple projects or tasks while effectively prioritizing to meet deadlines in an ever changing fast-paced environment. 
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Work, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). 
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills. 
• Strong attention to detail with excellent research and analytical skills.

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations or related discipline. 
• Master’s degree a plus. 
• PHR or SPHR certification preferred.
